Non Rev policies after merger?

Having done both, I prefer the seniority system. While not always true, most will be senior at some point in their careers. But listing must be done at least 24 hrs before departure time.

Now there's an interesting idea....

List at least 24 hours before, and everybody that has done so goes by seniority. List less than 24 hours before, and you go FCFS after the folks already on the list.

It's a great idea, but sounds like it might be a bit of a nightmare to administer. Agent comments on making it work?

The point is that, wherever and whenever possible, the company does not want to strand non-revs at a station where they would have to pay for hotel rooms or sleep in the terminal overnight. If it is my originating station, at least I can go home and sleep in my own bed and try again tomorrow.

OK, except if I'm going to visit family somewhere and am waiting to get on a flight (after driving 3 hours to get to the airport from where they live) and I don't get on, or I'm in a city where I've just completed my vacation, I'm not really at home either even though it's considered my originating station and will have to spring for a hotel. So, I think that logic is a little flawed.

With QIK, it isn't going to happen. It could be accomplished though with a better system. All you would have to do is designate a sub class for each category of listing to automatically populate when a listing is made less than 24 hours before a flight. SA3 for those listed before 24 hours and SA3L for those listed later.

No kidding...

Buddy/guest pass (SA7) boarding priority is already done in QIK by check-in time. Also, for active employees traveling SA3/SA1 with the same DOH (date of hire) (rare occurence?) QIK prioritizes boarding by check-in time. I assume the same holds for SA1 (vacation pass) and SA4 (retiree, dependents not traveling with active employee), but I don't know for sure.

My guess is the above SA3/SA3L should be easy to implement. The SA5A listing for AA employees (FCFS after all DOH SA3/SA4's) is essentially the proposed SA3L.

It's gonna be Amadeus.

SA1/3/4/5/6 are all done by seniority. SA7/8/9 are all by time of checkin.

It happens in HNL all the time. You get on the standby list 24hr ahead as a D1 and your first on the list with about 15 other D1s behind you. There's 10 opens seats and you feel confident you will get on. Those 15 D1's behind you all show up at the gate and have their D1 status changed to D1T because they all flew in on Hawaiian Air from the other islands and now have transfer status...i believe all you have to do is show the gate agent your boarding pass from the Hawaiian Air flight to prove you are connecting. I may be wrong, but i think that is how it works.

Well, anyone can come up with a scenario where the system he/she doesn't like would screw you over. As a junior flight attendant, I could post all night long on why seniority-based boarding is unfair (from my point of view). My guess, though, is that none of us will be consulted before a system is selected. If it is put up to an employee vote, it will probably be FCFS because we have more employees than you do, and most of us like FCFS just fine--at all seniority levels.

But, then I repeat. Non-rev travel is NOT an earned benefit. It is a granted benefit. That's why you have to pay taxes on the use of that benefit. Why should seniority matter on granted benefits? Seniority matters on what base, schedule, and vacation you hold. When it comes to granted benefits, all seniority means is that you didn't quit and you didn't die. It escapes me why you think that should give you special boarding privileges.

And, if you are non-revving to popular vacation destinations--like Hawaii, you almost deserve to be denied boarding. I have no desire to go there, but the people I know who do, buy a ticket and travel pos space.

Then the trick is: Always finish your Hawaiian holiday in a city other than Honolulu.

So American employees pay taxes on their travel? Cause US employees do not unless it's international travel.

Pass travel is not taxed as income for active and retired employees. It is considered "imputed" income for domestic partners, registered companions and furloughed employees.

There are various fees and taxes that are assessed on international flights and domestic flights for which a surcharge was paid (i.e., first and business class upgrades).

. Seniority for one classification and fcfs for another. Are you kidding me? This won't happen with aa. It will be one way or another. At aa non rev travel is a company benefit. Same rules applie to all employees.
