It seems pretty clear that 2013 will involve strikes against Iran from Israel. The president seems to be positioning himself to not support Israel. To me that is a recipe for Egypt, Iraq, Syria and whoeever else over there hates Israel (read all of them) to jump in the fray.
There are two constants involved here. If Iran is allowed to obtain nukes they WILL use them no doubt about it. Probably the first target is Israel and the second will be the U.S. via a smuggled in weapon. Unless you live under a rock and actually believe what the pres says about there "not being a problem with the mexico border" it is as easy as dumping a large sum of money to the mexican drug cartels to move the weapon into the states along with a drug shipment or someother easily done way into the country.
second, for the afore mentioned first reason, Israel MUST act and they will, to do nothing is a death sentance for for them. Iran has stated many times their goal is the distruction of zionism. If Israel has to go it alone with no support from western nations it is pretty much guaranteed they will be one against many and the world economy will completly collapse due to the primary oil producing region being a war zone. Some countries will fare better than others depending on their own oil production and reserves but over all the result will be disasterous for the simple fact that NOTHING on this planet moves without oil. No food, goods, ships, planes, cars, electricity, etc etc etc.
Shut the oil off from the middle east overnight and you will see martial law pop up all over the world very quickly. then all this talk of freedoms etc means exactly squat.
We had this scenario in the 80's with Iraq. Israel did airstrikes against the Iraqi facilities. And that strike was prompted by the "possibility" of the reactor being used to produce weapons grade material. There is no doubt about the intent of Irans program. After the 81 strike you saw UN protests and hand wringing from the middle east but no action due to the fact that the U.S. had several battlegroups in the area to make countries think twice about any aggression.
If it becomes apparant to the rest of the middle east that Israel is on its own, as the president in my opinion seems to be implying, we are going to see exactly what its like to really be living in an oil shortage. Nobody that lives in a developed country on this planet is going to be very fond of that. Including Russia, China and the rest of the wold that has the power to make things happen in the middle east.
From there we can speculate on many things, Chinese controlled middle east oil fields, radiation contaminated oil fields, etc etc....who knows.
So when deciding on how to vote this election we all need to remember that Israel WILL NOT be allowing Iran to complete the process. What happens after that will depend a lot on who is the president of the US in 2013 and if the 2013 presidents plan is appeasement or a strong stance on events happening in the middle east.
Like it or not until we tap our own oil supplies big time or find another viable way to power ships, planes, trucks, electrical stations etc, we are all slaves to the black goo the middle east has. And the viable alternate power source is decades away minimum even if you go full steam green worldwide.
