THERE IS NO MAA WITHOUT MAINLINE SUBSIDIZING IT! Its NOT the other way around. MAA is not giving .2 cents to the business plan except to show up for work.

Just in case you haven't heard while you were doing your "reality check"...GE will NOT finance more RJ's UNLESS, mainline employees give concessions to meet the BUSINESS PLAN CRITERIA! KAPEESH?

Watch how this works from someone on the "major inside" of the place...

Doesn't LOA91 allow for an affiliate to buy up MDA's assets and any future deliveries. Doesn't that allow for the continuation of MDA, regardless of the fate of the mainline?
 
That is why the sick policies are so fierce along with the harsh disciplines. Mangement looks to terminiate the "top-out" senior f/as... that's the plan, and will continue to be the plan for U and all the legacy carriers

Well PitBull, MAA is getting planes again, which means either you are wrong, or you are wrong.

I am betting that you are wrong, not in that GE does not expect US to obtain neeeded concessions (they do, and US will), but that they realize that placing the EMB-170 on line automatically grants the company concessions that were already agreed to.

Be it an outstation, or the new focus city that you work at, shifting the flying over to the MDA will shift the work to "mainline-express". That is a substantial incentive to keep bringing the 170's on (at 4 a month so far PBull).

So enough with the "subsidizing" fluff, the drive of the concessions is to increase productivity at mainline, not pay for what we are already doing at Express/MDA).

Rico, you are wrong about the work being shifted to Mainline Express. There is a separate classification for MDA work and jobs. I look for MDA to be spun off as a separate company in a few years as Express Jet was from CO. The CO employees lost their rights to transfer to and from Mainline about one year after the deal closed.
 
Not saying that MDA could not be somehow spun off, but it is a different animal than COEX ever was...

MDA is not a separate entity, it more resembles US Shuttle or Metrojet in that it is part of, and operated upon the US Airways certificate. It is different than Piedmont(ALG) and PSA, which are subsidiary carriers operating upon their own certificates.

Both Airbus and Boeing ignored or chose not to focus on the sub-130 seat market giving the opportunity for Embraer and Bombardier/Canadair. I don't think this will be the end of Embraer's product line growth either.

Overall, I think it will be a good thing for passengers if Embraer and possibly Canadair start to break up the cosy Airbus-Boeing duopoly. A 737 may be nicer than an RJ on long routes, but the seats are still painfully small (and I'm not obese either) -- Airbus is only an inch or so better. From what I understand, Embraer has really upped the ante in the comfort to be expected from a small narrowbody aircraft. It will be interesting to see Bombardier's response.

You are right that as presently configured MDA could not be spun off as a separate (stand alone) entity since it does not have it's own ops certificate. However, the assets (planes, etc) could be sold off to another carrier who either has the Emb-170 on their certificate (Republic) or could add the Emb-170 to their certificate (anyone else).

Alternatively, MDA could be transitioned to it's own certificate and then spun off.

Well, although it is possible they could still send that flying off to Republic (chatauqua) or Mesa,, it is unlikely, as those outfits finally have higher costs than MDA would have remaining in-house, I believe the qoute was 8..%

The big reason sucha transfer of flying to outside companies was the drop in the US credit rating to ccc+, and the possibility that GE might now allow further deliveries of new emb-170's. However, negotiation were completed, with GE, US, and the Brazillian government, and those deliveies have continued once again (at 4 a month)

So although it is possible to see MDA taken off the property, at this point, it is not as likely.

When and if PDT and ALG merge, what do you think will happen to ALG's certificate? I had heard that it was intended to be used for MDA....If this company can sell and spin-off MDA in a few years, you can bet they will along with it's employees.
