Is this MDA or MAA for real or what? The new High-tech EMB 170 is a bad joke to say the least. It has the reliability of a 14 year old paper boy for starters. Then there is the wonderful cargo door that has a stowaway “Caneâ€￾ that needs to removed and used to lock the door in the upright position. What the heck type of design is this for an A/C built in 2003/4? This is something that I would have expected to be used in the 50’s or 60’s, not today. If they way they are operating now is any indication of things to come,
look out!!!! There have been more delays and cancellations so far than any of the Worst contract carriers that are used. The word from the “Topâ€￾ is to run the flights regardless of how late they are to get the Completion factor up there. More money wasted, more money lost with passengers being rerouted to OA, and so on. And this is supposed to be the savior of the Airline…. Add this circus to the headaches of PSA and their crew problems, along with the sub-par operations of the contract carriers for a gem of an Airline. Just look how much better this is now with all these RJ’s flying around instead of the Mainline flights and the props.

ITrade, he might be Bitter (going down to $13.00 an hour I would too) but he is all so right. The contract Carriers with Weight and Balance issues, PSA with CREW problems and the EMB with Software problems sheds no light at the end of the tunnel.

Please remember any new aircraft that comes on line will have its bugs to be worked out. I have heard nightmare stories about the first Dash 8's, and now they are the work force and backbone of the Express carriers. I think they will finally get that Taco Rocket working (hopefully).
I think the problem will be this, keeping crews!! Management listen to me! MDA will not be able to keep any pilots with those pay rates, I repeat none. Jet Blue gets there first of 100 (option another 100) 190's next year. And from what I hear, better pay rates and work rules. So, MDA will use its two nice shiney 170 sims in CLT to train our fine crews to head over to Jet Blue. I know we at the W/O's are going to get postions there now, and thats the only talk. Go there and get some time in the 170 and bail to Jet Blue. Too Funny, instead of running our employees off, I think US Airways needs a solution to keep people (and that saying, "be lucky u have a job" wont last much longer).

10:00am, Beer tyme...

I guess the Glass is half-full with you eh...?

Te Plane was made for passenger comfort, not yours. Does it take so very long to use the cargo door in comparison to waiting for nice expensive and heavy motor to open the door for you...?

The brunt of the delays are due to the fact that this is a NEW aircraft type, that NO ONE has experience with. It takes awhile to iron out the glitches, and for crews to learns the ins and outs of the new aircraft (the unwritten rules on how to best fly and operate a plane that only comes from time in her)

Obviously you do not like MDA, fine. Stay with your precious mainline operation if you are senior enough. The fact of the matter is that someone has to match our competition, and unles EVERYONE does, then for now it will have to be MDA. So instead of griping about them, realize that they are what might keep everyone else's job alfoat.

Hearing throuh the grapevines that they are having lots of problems. Maintenance reliability stinks, calling it the Fokker Jr. Keeping the mechanics busy. Supposed to pick up A/C #10 but they are having a problem with that at the factory. I really don't think the stats are that stellar otherwise there would be info with the stats daily in Usair Today just like the mainline and commuter.

Well said Rico.

This is an attitude thats pervasive at the mainline. They've always been anti-Express (particularly W/O which is bizarre), but with MAA they think thier jobs are being stolen when in fact they are being saved. Active mainline employees are looking down at thier former co-workers who return to MAA. Well newsflash, it was the active employees who voted in the contracts, not the furloughed ones currently working there. Maybe they could have actually thought about what MAA may end up being and how it affects everyone before they signed away the furloughees futures. For F/As, the MAA contract is pretty close to what the competition has to fly the nice big planes we'll never see again. Like Rico pointed out, MAA may offset such dramatic changes to the "mainline".

Anyone who's been in the industry for awhile knows that any new plane that comes online has bugs to be worked out, whether its an Airbus, a Boeing, a Fokker, Dornier whoever. US Airways is the LAUNCH CUSTOMER. It will take some time to figure it out, but the benefit is we'll be up and running with them and using them to our advantage while competitors are just starting with them. For once we are ahead of the game. We missed the RJ revoloution but we're leading the SJ one. If its really a crappy plane, then someone better inform Alitalia, LOT, JetBlue, Air Caraibes, Air Canada, Swiss, Qantas and Republic. And even Southwest has publically mentioned them.

And has there EVER been an aircraft type to arrive and not be prompty declared a "POS" by the mechanics? You only ever hear nice things about a plane when they are gone. "Now that DC-9, that was a real mans airplane." I'd rather have a plane that demands a little attention from our mechanics anyway, as long as its OUR mechanics who are fixing it with pride in thier hearts. :)

IF IT AIN'T BOEING I AIN'T GOING. All embraer products new and old are pieces of S#@T compared to any boeing old or new. Absolutely a joke!

Wow...touchy AND closed minded aren't we?

The E170 has added a much needed new demension to US. As a pax with deep ties to those employed with US, I'm thankful for the variety and excitement this new aircraft provides.

does anyone know if the CRJ-700 is nice to load and fly and the likes? I wouldnt mind seeing one but i dont think it will be in the abe or even the phl airports. are they a lot easier to work than the EMB-170s?

All,

A new software load will be out shortly to fix most of the glitches. The cane does not hold the door open. It is only used to release the cam locks that hold the door up. It is stored in the cargo hold when not in use.

Fly,

Some folks just do not have or care less to have a "Dedication to reality."

the discipline just shines in that prior post; Don't you think?

It is so easy to blame everyone else when one has no desire to to face reality. I don't know what makes him think he was brought up in such a perfect and carefree world. if that was the case we would all be dumb as hell. He has a lot to learn fly!

i happen to know wings personally and we have both worked the emb 170 and as i had seen on another thread yesterday the emb cancelled in ny and thaat same plane has had numerous cancellations. but if the company wants ot have these problems then so be it and we'll just sit back and wathc our pax slowly ware off and go to other carriers
