Local 565 Elections

Congrats Ken,

I hope you can turn out to be a good officer for your TWU members.

HSS

Coming from a true twu believer such as yourself I thank you for your well wishes. I do intend to do exactly as you wish and that is to be a good officer and by that I mean I will answer any question asked of me from the membership. If I do not have an answer I will find the information and relay it.

Now, if my perception of being a good officer goes against the international's perception of what a "good" officer should be it will be interesting to see how long it takes before I am removed from office. After all the NY Local had two excellent officers and they were removed for being good. ;)

Ken, it is important that you are there to fight the good fight. Getting removed, thus developing martyr status, will not be a beneficial use of your talents for those who you will soon represent. Be smart. Those who elected you are counting on you. Just my thoughts.

This statement is proof positive of how those who are APPOINTED feel that democracy is something to fear.

When you belong to a union why can not ALL officials, both Local & International, be ELECTED by the full membership?
I think Little already answered that question when he said "Democracy is not the best way to pick leaders".

How could u possibly take that response as negitive towards you
Because HSS is either an International official of one of its very few lackeys. Notice his condecending answer.

You wouldn't understand. Being a new kid on the block.

This is the type of answer you get from the International when the truth reveals what they dont want to reveal.

When new officers come in, even if they ran on a militant platform, the International always tries to win them over and convince them that the membership is the enemy and they are there to help. There is no training to be a union official and Local leaders have almost zero power over the contract so its common for new officers to become overwhelmed and turn to the International for assistance. In return the International softly pushes for loyalty to them, instead of the members. I've seen this ploy in action first hand. I've heard Little, Gless and Sonny Hall say negative things about the membership. Things like "This is the most thankless job you'll ever have". "The reason you have bad contracts is because the membership doesnt participate". "The members voted in these contracts". Everything is always the members fault according to the International. The fact that the membership did what the International directed them to do is avoided. The membership does share a small amount of the blame but it stems from the fact that they have tolerated the incompetance and betrayal of the TWU International for so long.

Ken,

I was only trying to be nice, and give you a chance. Perhaps I have been mistaken?

Give me a chance? Did you vote for me?

I was being nice too. If you perceived my response to you as a negative reply that is your right. (So is reading and comprehending the English language.) When I said you are a true twu believer I am stating fact as proven by your previous posts defending all actions taken by the international while hiding behind an alias.

As for your other post under your second alias of Man of the People:

"Ken, it is important that you are there to fight the good fight. Getting removed, thus developing martyr status, will not be a beneficial use of your talents for those who you will soon represent. Be smart. Those who elected you are counting on you. Just my thoughts."

I will, as you say, "fight the good fight". But I will fight as the membership dictates to me because they are the people whom they have elected/entrusted to do as they wish. Since they elected me and I am accountable to them this seems like the logical & common sense way for me to fight the good fight.

You are the one mentioning my being a martyr. Not me. Read what I wrote to you again: "I will fight as the membership dictates" because the membership controls the power of a local, not the elected officials. The only way I can be a martyr as you imply is for the twu international to remove me the same way they remove those two true union men from NY. The membership can simply not re-elect me.
