Unions are like the theatre... not quite dead yet but its hard to find many who give a damn about either...
People like you are like fish out of water: flapping its mouth and not quite dead knowing its destiny.

You are wrong.. plenty of non union people earn great wages and benefits.. You dont have to be in a union to be paid fairly.. most of the people in our country are NOT in a union. You do need to be in a union to get away with demanding more than your worth.. it's a gang mentality.. thats why you call yourselves brothers and sisters, much like gang members do... Unionists hide behind seniorty, while others grow by striving to be better, and working harder than others... Unions - are an old school outdated socialistic approach that once had meaning back in the early 1900's before there were laws which protected workers.

Two words for you: *SUPPLY & DEMAND*

Any efforts to thwart supply and demand will certainly fail.. That's precisely why things like price ceilings and price floors never work. Thats why minimum wages create job shortages..

If Labor demands a wage outsite of what is profitable for an airline, it will fail. The last time I looked, UAir is not in black ink, and has only had gains in 2 of the last 16 years.. CASM.. it's too high..

If there are no concessions, I guess you can all have a bang up time high fiving eachother in the unemployment line..

Pity.
bravo! I couln't have said it better. the strong will survive, not hide behind the union.

Well, just tell me this!!! If we had nothing BUT mangement in this country today and NO labor, just tell me where the HELL would we all Be????? Managment would not have their cozy little (big homes), nice fancy cars and gourmet dining.

Sounds to me that some on here are advocating that the Labor of USAirways should feel grateful at having a job, but should be working for SWEATSHOP wages.
Kitty, SWEATSHOP wages? your pay and benefits are above the norm.
try working an 8-5 job .
i heard one of your gate agents mention to a colleague on the phone that yes he could have lunch as he doesn't have another flight for 3 hours!!!!! CLT D6 saturday.
wish i had a 3 hour lunch.
he could just as easily go help another gate, but NOOOOO. he takes a 3 hour lunch. unbelievable!
this is what is wrong. this has to change if you want to take on LUV and the rest.
good luck and take on the competition not yourselves for crying out loud.

"u-b-w-u,

You may be right about the fact that unions are somewhat dated these days. In many ways unions are victims of their own success.

But you miss the BIG PICTURE, which is that people like YOU will never be able to keep their own inherent greed in check, and will continue make statements that show your true feelings and inflame the lowly proletariat enough to keep unions going for some time. Whenever a neutral observer may be about to conclude on her own that maybe unions aren't really necessary anymore, someone like you comes along and reveals just how ugly the "other side" is.

Kinda like the Trent Lott hullaballoo last year. Just when you think Republicans may finally "get it" about race relations, one of them opens their mouth. (And to keep this from getting political, which is not my intention, the flip side of that can be seen as: The Democrats may harbor some of the same feelings, but at least they know enough to keep their mouths shut!)

In other words, you would probably hasten the demise of unions by simply keeping silent. "

lame!

Great observation and salient point. Doesn't take long for the contempt to come out when the soft-shoe fails to resonate.

If LOA 91 has passed whats going to happen when the mechanics say "thanks but no thanks, the concession stand is closedâ€￾.... or will they?

"Mainline will die. from old age of course. "

And here I was thinking you thought it was us evil, greedy employees making success impossible for the supremely competent management.

the judge will take care of that

remember the company makes requests if they (the company) thinks loa91 is enough then they wont pursue it likewise if they feel another group wasnt playing ball the requests might be shall we say more aggressive ?

Hammerhead,

You just sound to gleeful to me. I debate these folks and I respect them and their opinions no matter how misguided we think the other is.

I find your tone and demeanor insulting to every person who punches a time clock or fills out a time sheet.

Why is it that EVRY GD time their is a "Contract Crisis" we get morons coming out of the woodwork, insulting and demeaning people on here. I post a lot and I learn alot. Bit I've no time personally for this kind of behavior.

We have people sent to the cornfield for calling people Arse holes and less, yess that blantant insult from the Jerry Glass wannabee' goes unchecked, go figure
Bob-

As always, thank you. :)

Just jumping in on your post...please remember folks. LOA 91 was presented to the pilot group as a NO LOSE proposal. It was sold to the pilot group as a giveback to the company that had no value (nothing in return), and that it MIGHT help the company survive. I disagree with both those points...but what I really want to say is this.....LOA 91 was NOT part of the pilots givebacks in the new restructering of the company. That giveback is yet to be asked for by the company, and LOA 91 was given FREE of charge with no value attached. The IAM could care less about it, since ALPA has made it real clear the real givebacks are coming later. Best. Greeter.

And to those who say they would prefer to see the doors close because it's full pay to the end, all you will have is yourself in a new job, paying less, accumulating your seniority all over again and that's only if you find a decent paying job. Even if you can get another airline job, you think your going to pull in the pay your pulling now? Even with more pay cuts, work rules - your rock bottom at your so called new job. So please explain to me, how this benefits you? What's your point? If I make 60K now and I agree to make 50K a month from now, how am I still not ahead of the ballgame here? The free ride is over. If you want a guarantee on pension and job security - go work for the government!
