LCC Proposes $8B merger with Delta

Limes or no limes?
Glass or plastic?
Snack basket or pretzels?

As a side dilemma, what will all of the 'who took over whom posters' do when there's a menage a trois (sp?) in the mix??

yes it will, please no one take this as a personal attack, but we at the west all along have wanted it made clear, or at least the ones from the east that have the " we call the shots" attitude to try to understand what we out west were facing, the loss of our complete identity, possible loss of jobs, benefits, etc... the list goes on, now as they could face the same extinction, maybe they will understand what we have had to live with day to day as our airline was put to a slow death....

Doug said in the article that CLT, and SLC will be safe and they will have to divest on of the shuttles.

Yea, the execs end up with millions of $$ payday once a merger goes through....employees....they are just to remain gleeful that they have a job, and that their superiors have come into the "millionaire's club".

Think Doug might join The Billionare's club now?

I'm guessing that this would not be possible. Considering the seniority of DL's f/a corps (I have a friend there who has almost 40 years on the line), how could AFA allow DOH for a non-union workforce and avoid a DFR suit from the junior US/AWA flight attendants who would be furloughed to make room for the DL f/as? (And, you know that would have to happen.)

The AFA's first responsibility legally is to protect the jobs of its current members.

Jim:

Here are my thoughts on how the AFA could allow DOH.

How many current LCC flight attendants are there? The numbers make a difference.

If there are more DL flight attendants than LCC flight attendants, the NMB would not allow the union of the minority to represent the majority without some sort of election to see who would represent the combined group.

If the former DL flight attendants are treated punitively by the afa, the afa could find itself decertified by a larger DL flight attendant group.

IMHO, because of the possibility of decertification, I feel that we are likely to see a fair settlement in seniority integration.

Well, I'm totally out of my depth here, because this makes no sense and is totally unrealistic. Does LCC have financing set up for this.

As a carrier that has an ROI only second to Southwest financing should not be a big problem Citigroup has committed financing. Im sure Lakefield has will continue to be a valuable link with the banking community.

Rumor has it that US lined up a huge billions and billions of dollars cash line from investors. And dont forget Seabury and Associates who work for US/East who raised ALL THE CASH for US and AW to merge.

Machinists Union Responds to US Airways Merger Proposal
Wednesday November 15, 9:49 am ET

WASHINGTON, Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) General Vice President Robert Roach, Jr. today issued the following statement in response to US Airways' proposal to buy Delta Airlines:

"The IAM is prepared for additional airline mergers and a US Airways-Delta pairing is one of many being evaluated by our Transportation Merger Team. If US Airways hopes to complete a successful merger with Delta or any other airline they must first conclude the ongoing negotiations with the Machinists Union regarding the integration of America West employees into US Airways. Earlier today, US Airways CEO Doug Parker contacted me and indicated a desire to work with the Machinists Union. We are prepared to work together as long as all affected employees' interests are fully protected."

The IAM represents more than 10,000 Mechanic & Related, Fleet Service and Maintenance Instructors at US Airways. More information about the Machinists Union can be found at http://www.goiam.org.

This could be the perfect time to downsize PHL to a focus city and utilize Deltas new JFK hub for International ops. ;)

The NMB would not get involved except post-merger. Being non-union now, the DL f/as have no standing with the NMB. Post-merger, there might not be enough DL f/as left to be a "majority." I'm not saying either way is right or wrong. I'm just saying that the Duty of Fair Representation is owed to current, not potential, members.

Is there a precedent for a merger of a smaller union group and larger nonunion group. Would there be a union.nonunion vote for the combined group?

The press release says they will drop 10% capacity, so I would imagine at least 2 A/C types to disappear.
