Jetblue To Reconsider E190 Order

All:

All the naysayers are pretty quiet lately.....what is up?

Too tired to go another round?

Deiced the jet the other day in JFK.....the paint didn't run off and it didn't melt. No operational issues, just an occasional glitch which was quickly rectified.

I'll agree with 767. Got better things to do than to argue with someone with the blinders on so tight that they still raise the "Dave is Great!!" flag despite collapsing operational and financial permance, even with industry basement compensation. Then if I dare question it, one of your cheerleaders attacks my wife. I'm trying to avoid the High School boards.....

Jetz and Busdrvr:

Wrong on both accounts. My post was on topic, meaning that the people who said that JB was going to crapcan the program because the aircraft was "junk" was pure bunk.

You two keep going back to the pay and the fact that we like our management.

As far as poor operational and financial performance, I will take our problems any day of the week compared to where some in the industry are.

Even the Yugo made it off the car lot. The problems came later.
Fact: Jblu has gone from far and away the 'best' on-time airline, to one of the worst.
Is it bad employees, undependable jets, or poor management? Well?

And we'll just have to agree to disagree, I'd take an airline who actually includes MX on the balnce sheet and who's business plan does not rely on "keeping our 'Culture'" (code for finding employees who will continue to work for bargain basement rates despite the stock options being worthless). Good luck with that....

JetBlue posted its first pre-tax loss in quite a long time just a few weeks ago (3Q2005 profit due to tax effect of loss) and is rumored to be expecting an even larger loss in 4Q2005. If Neeleman can operate 100 seaters alongside his 156 seaters profitably, he'll look brilliant, as conventional wisdom from his old employer (WN - which bought Neeleman's last airline, Morris Air) says one fleet type helps lower costs dramatically.

But if B6 keeps turning in losses, the boneheaded (IMO) decision to add fleet complexity to chase higher and higer hanging fruit (small markets) is gonna qualify him for a "WHAT the HELL were YOU THINKING??" award. B)

Toyota, Honda, & Nissan made it off the lot too. The world however is still holding its collective breath waiting for problems to develop. Not that this has anything to do with airlines mind you, and I may be totally wrong, but for some reason I don't think these companies are going away any time soon. ;)

Cheers

Sure, Nissan made it off the lot, but only after being renamed from Datsun in 1985 (similar to Airtran being renamed from Valujet?). Out of fairness, Nissan was the parent corporation all along, but chose to use the Datsun name in the US in 1959 to counter any lingering anti-Japanese sentiment).

There are lots of airlines which made it thru their first birthday, but far fewer that make it to their fifth. Even People Express made it to their fifth birthday. So did Braniff II and Kiwi (barely). Vanguard even made it to their eighth.

So, time will tell if the E190 move was brilliant or stupid. Every new aircraft type has implementation issues, but the bigger concern will be how well JBLU manages the complexity of operating multiple types.

I miss Kiwi, 150 seats coach seats, lot's of leg-room, good meals and service. Great idea and product....piss poor management.

Actually, Kiwi limped along for about 8 years before going to that big airline graveyard in the sky. Although chapter 11 was anounced right at the 5 year mark.

Back on Topic...

At US Airways, we went through a year long period of constant issues regarding the E-170. But it has turned out to be a great plane, and most importantly the customers LOVE it...

Were the problems related to the quality of manufacturing or design...? No, that was not the issue 95% of the time. More or less the problems with this fleet type are related to the ongoing software upgrades or the obvious learning curve that a new plane on the property will have (For pilots and MNX).

Familiarity with the aircraft will lessen these problems, as the jetBlue EMB pilots and Mechanics gain direct experience with the aircraft. Trust me... That is what happened for us.

Good Luck and enjoy the new ride...

Such a great plane that they decided to sell the entire fleet to rid themselves of the operation tha was supposed to save the Airline......It's a good thing that AWA management saw the light.

Your supposition is incorrect. If you don't understand why U sold the 170 fleet then go and do some homework. What's the adage I'm thinking of; oh yeah figures lie and liars figure.
