The following report is from a key person. The problem is the TWU presidents. 100%. The concensus among LUS is "see ya in section 6."
Sorry weas but im just fine with my double time and pay raise.
I think the problem is that we didn't take the time to sufficiently understand each side's point of view. If the roles were reversed, we would be saying the same things as to what we may oppose or disagree with today.
The IAM wants to protect their Medical, Pension and Scope language. We would all want that with things being equal. Some of us even wanted to vote no on a BK TA to make that point even if it meant an abrogation.
In turn, the TWU intends to gain in some of the areas the IAM already has a step ahead of us, such as holidays and double-time pay.
The thing is that it doesn't seem we're dealing with issues as partners but more as adversaries and not giving each other the support needed so we all can have a better chance of achieving our goals.
The pointing of fingers at this juncture only hurts each side, and the Company makes decisions based on what they see in the negotiation room. Now that there is a comprehensive proposal, the process will slow down even more.
And Tim, there will be pressure from the NMB, at some point, to send something out for a vote. I know, they don't have any power in this particular instance, but they certainly have influence.
