JCBA Negotiations and updates for AA Fleet

You can't answer me why it's not a system wide vote. All you say is that's the way they have always done it. They used to give people labotomies too
See what it is Weez at LGA AA had a span of like 10 years they didn't hire people during that 10 years LUS was on the brink so people were leaving. So we still had flights so we had to hire. What LAA people don't realize is like the top 35% would probably get part of the weekend

Sure I can answer you. Maybe it will be in the JCBA that (only) LGA and JFK rotate their days off?

Now if you're asking me why wouldn't it be a systemwide vote that everyone, everywhere rotates the reason that's NOT going to happen is because no one else anywhere would be crazy enough to want to do it. I've said it before but nothing personal to my buddy back East but that rotating stuff is the craziest thing I've EVER heard. Honestly.

And if someone in any city ever tried to introduce it as a motion # 1 a whole bunch of people would hang the guy and # 2 I'm sure the Local where it was introduced would find some crazy way to declare it an illegal motion. Some Locals may already have it in their bylaws "No Rotating"

Not to mention any management group would pitch a fit if you told them you wanted to do it anywhere else either.

No buddy that's your Al-batross back there and I wish you all well when it hits the grimy fans.

Yes it will say only LGA and JFK my question is HOW or WHY can it say that

Again Al when I asked about it the response I got was:

"This is the way we've always done it and this is the way we're always gonna do it"

Basically that was an "End of story" comment to me.

But maybe you'll get lucky? Fingers crossed for ya.

Yes it will say only LGA and JFK my question is HOW or WHY can it say that

The Company doesn't want rotating days off so even if other stations, usually junior stations, were interested they wouldn't be able to overcome that hurdle. During the '08 CBA negotiations, a few stations stood in solidarity with NYC in order for them to keep their written agreement for rotating days off.

Today ,that might be in jeopardy because NYC doesn't have anyone at the table and the importance of that agreement to NYC might be underappreciated.

I worked with rotating days off and I didn't mind it at all. Usually those that can make steady weekends off are against it, while everyone else enjoys the ability to get weekends off every once in a while. Not to mention being able to get holidays off but not be stuck with a Monday/Tuesday all bid to do it.

Your assumption is incorrect that NYC (and MIA) do not have advocates in the negotiations to make sure they're voices are heard.

The article involving rotations in NYC has already been TA'd and after full JCBA ratification those affected members will be given a separate vote to determine whether or not they want to continue with the current system on the LAA side.

For clarity on the subject the rotations started in the early 80's out of JFK when management was given the ability to rotate and the Local there at the time fought back that their members should be able to enjoy the benefit also. At the time to hold steady weekends in JFK one needed 24 years with the company.

After it was gained by the Local for JFK it then rolled over as a benefit to LGA members as well.

For Al and his member advocates he will have the chance to vote against the rotations and even if he fails there will be continuing discussions on how and when it will be implemented for his members.

can someone explain why RDO would be beneficial

Bob RDO is only beneficial to the people who are currently involved in it and enjoying it. Let's put it this way. When I hired on back in LGA in 95 there were some PT shifts that didn't rotate. Those shifts were in the Bagroom and I started with Tuesday, Wednesday off. I was a young dude still interested in drinking and partying with my buds.

Now the shift I had still made it that I could go hang out after work on the weekends because thankfully the only day they didn't extend me was Saturday. Otherwise I was extended every other day.

I left NY in 97 to take FT in DFW and start a new adventure after my buds started pairing off and getting married. If I had stayed in LGA I wouldn't have gotten FT till mid 2002.

If I had stayed and taken FT with my seniority my party days would have been over. I would have been working weekends for many many years. So with the rotations eventually I would have again been able to go out and have a good time Charlie hanging out at those great Woodside and Sunnyside Queens bars. (There's no one in the bars on Tue Wed)

I wasn't in School or looking to start a family so yea I can see the appeal of rotating into Sat Sun off.

And the reason in fairness I wouldn't like it now is because I'm coming up on 22 years and could get those steady weekends here in MIA and probably back in LGA too if I went back and they didn't rotate.

So yea the seniority I have under my belt now has changed my perspective on things.

how about a push for 10 hr. workdays/3 days off a week? no takers?

They tried that in DFW but the members got frightened of the idea and made a motion that passed to do away with it. They didn't like the idea that you didn't get OT pay if you bid one of those spots and they were afraid that it would cost jobs.

And I was also told by a manager in MIA who used to make the bid who has since left to ORD. Never going to happen in MIA.

Personally I would LOVE it.

yeah, i wouldn't mind trying it...there are always going to be patches of time where OT dries up anyways.

if this would eliminate FT shifts, then i would be against it. from what i've seen, unless the PTers' benefits take a hit, the company will cater to PT status.

I did it at FedEx before I started with AA and I LOVED it. I had Fri, Sat, Sun off.

Those 3 days off make you really feel like you have a life outside of work.
