If this talk of AA wanting to spin off the overhaul operations is true, can someone tell me why the TWU would even entertain this idea?

Can anyone give some insight to this BESIDES the fact that the TWU is a company union?

Of course. The dues are what it's all about. But I wonder if the overhaul people will insist the line station people take a hit as well.

Just like Sabre, if AA M@E starts showing a profit because of third party maintenance work, AMR would want that off the AA books. This way AA can keep claiming poor mouth and countinue with business as usual.

Last time I checked Eagle was under a seperate contract. If the Overhaul bases become a subsidiary sounds like a whole new contract. With the help of the twu of course

I cannot believe the rumor would be true. I do not see any one union holding any "cards" over management's head, but, I do not see the TWU allowing, or entertaining , the idea of spinning off mx.

At the Crew Chief meeting today, the management - union team assured us that the workers will be around. If there is a surplus of mechanics, the company will bring in third party work to protect these workers jobs. As for the wage and benefits, they would not comment except to say that a high wage and benefit package is acceptable as long as the productivity is there also. We have until the year end of 2006 to show a savings of $500 million.

Sounds like what they told the TWA employees to me?

I agree Decision, the 3rd party work story went over well here, why wouldn't management use it elsewhere? Hey, you guys are protected, don't worry, be happy!

Seed, you don't fully understand the twu. The twu could care less if AA spun off Tulsa. As long as they are represented by the twu and pay dues they will roll over and raise their rear ends high into the air.

<_< Buck-----Question? Why is it that, as you say," the company will bring in (to TUL) third party work to protect those workers!" Question? Why is it, we (MCIe) have to generate our own third party work "Locally" to survive????????

This 3rd party work pledge is B.S. If AA is to compete with the TIMCO's of the world, they have to LOWER costs. As long as AA has the pay structure it does, there is no way they can compete. Do you really think other carriers will pay $20 more per manhour just to have AA service their planes?

Do you know what this is about? This is about the company telling the TWU that more concessions are needed. PERIOD!

They just mentioned soliciting 3rd party work as the sales pitch that would keep the main bases at the levels they are now. If anyone thinks this is a mutual lovefest between the TWU and AA is sadly mistaken. If you watched the video, Romano put 18 months on this.

What do you think will happen then?

A while back one of Eagle's heavy MTX bases was spun off to create RAMCI. The reasoning as told to us was because they wanted to bring in some outside work but were having a difficult time because other airlines ( ASA et. al.) didn't want to spend their money supporting AMR Eagle's bottom line. I suspect there was more to it than that though although we never saw any other dramatic changes to the operation.

The effect to the MQT-RAMCI mechanics was negligable. IIRC, the only difference in contracts was the RAMCI title on the differently colored cover and a few side letters specific to jobs that existed only at MQT.

BTW, RAMCI was discontinued and brought back in as an official Eagle base. The official reasoning I heard was that they weren't attracting enough extra business as RAMCI to warrant the additional expense incurred by operating it on a different paperwork system.
