Because the IAM pension is more valuable then the 401K and it won't cost you any money out of your pocket and it is a multi-employer plan that is in no danger of being terminated.
700 you and the IAM's constant BS about the IAM pension is becoming really annoying at least to me. There are many assumptions that go into these monthly amounts and many of us are aware of the incompetence of the plan, together with Jurassiclike restrictability. Some of these assumptions will be broken down for all to see once the election is ordered. The truth is that the IAM pension plan on US property has one of the worst contribution rates ever seen. The IAM pension plan at United is somewhat better though.
401k have much more advantage than the restrictions on the IAM pension plan where even payment suspensions can happen.
401k's were designed because they offer choice, and less restrictions later in life. Even in the present day, the 401k helped with college bills, buying a house, etc. The Oldtime pensions aren't too atttactive, and at best take us back to the dark ages.
Unfortunately, the IAM being the powerful financial institution it is [not kiddn] it's just another way to dig into workers pockets. FWIW: I think the IAM's members would be more happy if the IAM finally sent the members a copy of their contract instead of these monthly credit card offers. Everyone knows that the IAM got out of the collective bargaining business a decade ago and reinvented itself as a financial institution.
At any rate, I find it disturbing that you continue to dress up one of the biggest concessions fleet service took. The IAM pension was a $47 million dollar concession that your company loved to participate in. That's right, the bottom line is that the IAM pension was worth MILLIONS less than the 401k. You can talk all you want buddy, but the scoreboard shows the truth!
Bring back the 401k please! Your Customer service agents have almost twice the retirement plan that your small little IAM plan has.
