A union is an Association of workers.

Association- An organized body of people who have some interest, activity or purpose in common.

You seem more concerned with what a union is called as opposed to what it does.

Are you saying that if a labor organiztion, commmonly referred to as a union calls itself an association that its not a Union?

Lets look at some of the largest labor organization-unions in the country.

1.3 million members

International Association of Machinists

Of the 13 million union members these unions alone make up nearly 8 million members, however since they do not have the word "union" in their name I guess you feel they are not unions either.


Should I go on? The fact is that the majority of "union" members belong to organizations that call themselves Associations, Federations or Brotherhoods.Of the largest 33 unions, or labor organizations, in this country only 16 of them, including the TWU at #33 call themselves "unions". Are the other 17 organizations, all of which have more members than the TWU, that are listed as Unions" in fact unions, according to you? Are their members Union Men and women?

Per the amfa@aa the numbers have been approx. 16,000 thousand! Where do you come up with 18,000 for a number? The former amfa organizers were complaining that the card count was 2000 short of the numbers posted (16,000) on your official amfa site. Sounds a little fishy to me! Please explain?
