Friday night in Charlotte

Another item that casued the pulldown of BWI, was it's close proximity to PHL. Most knew that BWI & PHL along with DAY & PIT wouldn't last a long time after the PI/US merger. I spent a few days in BWI for W&B training just prior to the merger, and it was a top notch facility. I was able to get a tour of ramp tower when I was there, and it was a great operation they had. B)

BWI was a hub for PI, US pulled it down way before the attempted merger with UAL.

A common misconception. USAirways pulled back from BWI in anticipation of DOJ objections to the virtual lock that a combined USAirways/United had on the three Washington area airports. United wanted to keep Dulles, and National was a more lucrative market (along with very valuable slots) for USAirways to hang on to during Wolf's failed attempt to sell the airline to United. It was clear there were antitrust issues, and the Washington airports was one of the biggest. Walking away from BWI was the only real solution to that particular antitrust issue. Of course, we all know it was futile.

But SWA didn't chase anyone out of BWI.

That most certainly explains the entire latter half of the 1990s, when LUV was growing in BWI and US was shrinking.

Tell yourself it was the merger if it feels better.

Things may have been smooth for the most part in PHL Friday night, but at least one station took big hit on PAWOBS. So bad that bags needed to be trucked there from PHL.

SKY HIGH STATES: Ohh, Add Phoenix to that list. HUNDREDS OF BAGS SITTING ON THE RAMP TODAY. C CONCOURSE.

Fascinating.

Now, I was thankfully proved incorrect on my prediction about Thanksgiving (please pardon the pun). But now I'm hearing about bags being trucked from Philadelphia. Ugh! This has got to stop! I thought we were past this silliness.

I sincerely hope this gets sorted out TODAY. PHL, you were doing so well...don't drop the ball now!

.... I'm hearing about bags being trucked from Philadelphia.
Isn't there a weight limit problem on RJ's that prevents bags to travel on the plane with a full passenger load? If so, it might have been smart for USAir to have trucks standing by. Your thoughts would be welcome.

And don't forget the free expansion of the terminal paid for through higher landing fees paid by--yep, US--and the fine taxpayers of MD. It was maddening that MY state government was spending my taxes to push my company out of the area.

Apparently you dont comprehend to well Sky High.

Towerclt works in the TOWER, directing planes to the gates, handiling loads and etc.

Not on the ramp loading planes.

And it does not take a rocket scientist to feel out the mood of his coworkers and people are tired of working short handed, why don't you work a day on the ramp and then maybe you will understand what they actually do and how hard the work can be at times.

Sick time is a contractual benefit and I guess you dont realize they only get paid 50% pay for the first five days when out sick unless hospitalized.

And the company cant prove they were not sick. A simple visit to the Dr's office and note will clear anyone.

sky high states: I worked on the ramp in 1979 to 1982 at JFK Airport. Trust me, I understand!
But, I also understand trying to get HOME to be with a sick parent for their last Xmas. How about getting our soldiers who are on leave for Xmas, Home? Now would you like to be in those shoes?
Speaking of contractual, the flying public PAID for air travel. THEY should expect services rendered.

How ANYONE can RUIN XMAS for so many people is beyond me.

How do you know exactly what happened?

You were not there, and I am telling there are a lot of illnesses going around right now, my son has been sick three times in the past month.

You are just as bad as the company was during the last meltdown and blaming the workers, funny thing is the DOT Inspector General's report blamed the company and not the workers.

Now go spin that.

Oh, I dunno. Maybe that CLTower "posted" the FACT weeks ago on this board that he heard people "planning" to call off sick for the holidays might lead one to believe it now that it's happened!!!

I have no interest in arguing with you, let's agree that we disagree.
