Firearm discharges on US Airways flight

3rd hand info reports that......

The Captain was putting the gun away when they were going thru 10,000 ft. The CA laid the gun down, with the gun pointing towards the fuselage. He then looked down and said he thought something was wrong. He then picked up the gun and it accidentally went off. The CA said his instinct was right that something was wrong when he looked at the gun. The CA said it was similar to an incident that happened when the gun went off by accident when he was going thru the training to carry the gun onboard.

I have had a bad feeling about this from the beginning. This case aside, pilots are some of the angriest and most bitter of all employees. We've seen fist fights and shouting matches with these guys. They hate the company, they graffiti walls, they dress sloppy. Some are basically thugs. Who knows what else some of these guys are capable of.

This was bound to happen and it probably won't be the last incident. Take the guns away!!

BTW

Flight Attendant = trained to arm doors. Accidentally blow a slide = possible termination.

FFDO Pilot = trained to arm a gun. Accidentally shoot it on a plane = possible termination.

Nice stretch, how do you get from an accident/negligent discharge to your statement. Maybe others unlike yourself are capable of separating anger at the company, from their job at hand. The Pilots are the most screened, checked and scrutinized employees at this and most companies. Add the FFDO thing and it goes up a notch. Your statement says volumes about your mental state not others. Are the cops next, as who knows what they are capable of?
This incident had nothing to do with your accusations, learn to separate your personal agenda from the reality of the situation.

You are a IDIOT!

... the ammunition issued to sky marshals and FFDO's is not a normal type of bullet. It is FRANGIBLE, meaning that it is designed to break apart upon impact. In theory, this ammunition is not designed to breach a pressurized fuselage. ...

Check out the picture on page 9 post#85 from today. Sort of "shoots a hole" (pun intended) in the FRANGIBLE theory. That is a hole in the exterior skin of the aircraft.

Luckily the aircraft can most likely be repaired in short order. The important thing is nobody was injured, other than ego. The FO may require surgery to remove the seat cushion from his posterior and will have a phobia about anyone handling a weapon near them for rest of their life.

According to you then they should take the planes away too. I wouldn't want that type of pilot flying around in a 200,000 lb aluminum missile that could snap at any second. Heaven for bid aaahhhhhh

It should only take about five minutes to duct tape that hole, even if they use two strips to form an X over the hole.

so why was it out was he going to use it was he having flash backs from the big one? if there was no need to use it why was it not secured was he bored I think his job is to fly the plane ? i think thats what he draws his paycheck on a I am not pilot but there is alot more stuff that is a little more important in the flight deck than admiring his gun

Sure. "Hey, it's possible, but we can't talk about it." Right.
Sigh... Look, I'm sure there is all kinds of information available on the internet. I'm not disputing that. I also know that there is also a ton of information NOT available on the internet, and is considered SSI, and revealing such info is grounds for termination in the FFDO program as well as grounds for criminal charges, not to mention irresponsible due to the fact that since 9/11 this subject is a matter of national security. Those are not my personal assertions. They come directly from the Department of Homeland Security.

So all I'm saying is that while there is certainly public info available, and you are free to speculate all you want on the matter, don't convict the person or use words like negligent when it is very possible that the truth lies somewhere in those details that are not open to discussion.
