Rumor has it that tomorrow B6 will announce PIT-JFK (4X) and PIT-BOS (2X) all on E190 aircraft. Again, let me reiterate this is only a rumor (from a rather good source) since nothing has been announced yet.

If indeed the announcement comes as planned, will US Airways respond at all or are they totally giving up on the PIT market?

Food for thought...

doesnt US have JFK back but thru AWA? IT will be interesting to see if PIT BOS fares drop when/if JB comes to Pit

ISP your information was correct.KDKA News and the Post Gazette are reporting this morning that Jet Blue will indeed begin flights to Boston and New York beginning this Summer.
Prices will begin at $64 one way.

Isn't Jetblue one of the airlines crying about overcapacity?

DING DONG the overpriced PIT to BOS fares are dead!!
YEAH!!!!

I would not celebrate too soon. Even Jetblue's CEO has admitted that they don't charge enough. Im sure every analyst and stock holder went . So what do they decide to do to combat their loss, offer $64 fares . I know US charges a lot but B6 may ruin themselves by charging too little.

B6 may need to raise their fares a bit if fuel remains expensive, but with US charging $718 r/t on this route, they have a lot of room to work with.

Oh, I don't think that you'll see too many of those $64 fares per flight. That just gets 'em in the door... Their "loss leader" fares on East Coast short-hauls used to be somewhere around $49, so they're charging more. It's the walk-up fare of $129 that's going to do nicely.

Agreed, the $49/$64 dollar fares are for a few seats, and intro.

Now, walk up fares of $129 is more like it, and yields for US Airways surely will edge lower.

Just wonder how much biz travelers have been paying between PIT-BOS the last year? Anyone care to chime in?!

:)

Sure - but then again, nearly all airline execs are lamenting the current domestic overcapacity. Yet B6 has loads of airplanes on the way and will have to put them somewhere, boosting the current overcapacity. Same with WN - it has many 737s on the way.

They are also competing with US in the newly announced BUR/LAS market that US West operates. Anyone from the West know how our loads do in this market ?
