I have heard from a very reliable source in PHX that there will be east flight attendant furloughs in 2006-2007. The company is planning on retiring the 737's with the 190's. The 190's have one less flight attendant which will result in furloughs. Also means reserve will be pushed up even more.

Huh? By 2006-2007, we will be integrated. If there is a furlough, it will be in inverse seniority. Therefore, it will not be an EAST issue. It would affect the most junior on the integrated list, and guess where most of them are based?

After Sep 06, ALPA has a contractual minimum fleet count, which does not include 190s. The current pilot bid now runs though Oct 06. With over 3 mil a day of profit alone coming into the bank, I would be surprised to see that bid recended and massive parking of the 737 fleet in the next 60 days. Also consider that there are only a handful of 190s coming in this year, so there is no replacement quickly on hand for the 737s.

Indeed, anything can happen. I just don't see that scenero playing out in the next 2 months.

I did not say in the next two months but 2006-2007. Integration is a long way off. Most likely, these planes will be parked, the layoffs happen and the integration.

I don't see the integration as being a long way off, maybe delayed. If there are any furloughs, it will ultimately hurt the WEST, once the integration takes place.

Dougie says integration is in 2007. How is that a long way off?
Well with the way the unions are dragging their feet on the integration process, it will be a long way off. Think about it ,if they get rid of a bulk of 737's that are old ane who's leases are up and replace with the 190's which have two f/a's, there will be a surplus. Just telling you what I heard from a reliable source. Big f/a layoffs on the east in 2007.

Some numbers.....

As of 6/30/06, East had 224 mainline aircraft, West 135.

The ALPA transition agreement calls for the minimum fleet count to be set on 9/27/06 at 90% of the then active fleets (rounded to nearest whole aircraft).

The investor guidance issued on 7/7/06 called for a combined fleet count of 257 aircraft at the end of 2006 (not counting the 3 190 deliveries in 2006).

The 190 delivery schedule calls for 3 in 2006, 8 in 2007, and 14 in 2008.

Any pilot furloughs? We're already so short.
No pilot furloughs. There are two pilots on the 737 and two pilots on the 790. There are three flight attendants on the 737 and two on the 190.

It would be the seat count rather than how many A/C we have that effect the F/A's. All the A/C's now have two pilots. Most Oceantic have a third, IRO. Say we pick up 2 757's and drop 2 737's. That's a scratch for pilots, but increse for F/A's.

Operational intergration is set to occur in May of 07. If their will be any furloughs then it will be West only cause every on on the East has at least 5 years! So IWANOUT I'd go ahead and get that Resume' ready!
