Thats my guess. :p

If the CWA obtains a TA and the rank-and-file vote "no", how do you think the company will respond? Moreover, what will be your personal professional situation following these actions?

Respectfully,

What would be your personal professional situation if the company files BK? Are you maybe a little concerned? Personally, my resume' is updated and already cycling. Perhaps you under estimate your co-workers and their qualifications.

The airline announced a $35 million dollar profit..I don't think you can go bankrupt when you are making profits, just because you want to make MORE in profits....By doing away with unions...

I find it very amusing that they propose in the concession that they can lay off a CWA worker, and then turn around... and call you back for $7.65 an hour...

What would prevent them for laying off everybody... and rehiring back everybody at $7.65 an hour...

These are very devious people......Beware!

I have never in my life seen a more crafty, sleazy, greedy, lying bunch of people that run a company! I dont even think Terminix could fumigate that messy place in CCY. The smell is so bad it need to be torn down and rebuilt.

Well, ya can. Profits occur when assets increase relative to liabilities. Bankruptcy occurs when cash is low enough that debt can't be serviced. As a result, you can have profits and still file for bankruptcy.

But back to the situation at hand...

...just because you want to make MORE in profits....By doing away with unions...
Lorenzo's the reason you can't do that anymore. If US files, it's for two reasons:
  • Q3 and Q4 are likely to have losses, not profits. Recall that Q2 is the best quarter in any given year.
  • Wages are paid in cash, and cash is getting to be quite precious at US. Wage reductions reduce that pressure.
What would prevent them for laying off everybody... and rehiring back everybody at $7.65 an hour...
Absolutely nothing. That's the point, of course.

They will go in and lay half of the station agents off, then come back and say they made a mistake, we have to call them back, at the new rate of course.....anyone that votes yes for this is out of their minds.

Well, USA320PILOT,
at $13.10 an hour with no guarantee of more than 20 hours a week, I'd be making $6.55/hr full time equivalent. I dont think I'll have a problem making that, even at Walmart or McDonalds. Thanks for the concern, but like some of us have been trying to get it through to you, we are so close to the bottom IF we stay and they get the cuts through, that I personally have nothing to lose from voting no.
I know I can do better than the $13.10/hr they are proposing (even if I got my full time back). BOA is hiring at $13.75 with bennies, and thats just one job that I know of. Some of us have come to the reality that life as we know it at US is over one way or another and have accepted that. We arent going to give back this severe of a cut because frankly after 18 years, its almost a step back 10 years and its way more than I'm willing to donate. I dont want to leave US because I like my job, but I am not willing to spend the next 17 years until retirement working for this contract AND these people.

Good luck in staying home taking care of the kids or taking that international flying job.
My lifestyle isnt going to have to change too much from today because I've already been downsized (both at work and home) since Oct 01.

Dude, you'd have to be a moron not to be able to go out into the real world and replace the wage/bennies U has in mind for agents in the out-stations.

And that, my friend, is a fact you need to keep in mind. AGENTS HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE!

Dio,

That was my point exactly. I was just merely stating was has become obvious. He jumps on every other union when it comes to a TA and says we better agree or else. It seems to me that he's scared of losing his job and feels it necessary try and use scare tactics. I don't scare that easily.

I love the way people say jobs that pay 13 an hour are hard to come by, when in fact they are not. A 10 year job with wal-mart would put you well over 13 an hour.

Well, if this thing were to be passed that means $13.10/hr until at least 2011. If you started at Airtran today, in 6 years (2010) you'd be making $13.35/hr and in 12 years you'd be at $16.75/hr based on their current pay rates. Heck get a job at B6 and in 10-12 years you'd be back at $20.00/hr and at WN you'd be way ahead of where you are even currently at.
There are also lots of non airline jobs available depending on what you want to do. I've seen many office/receptionist jobs STARTING at $10/hr and I'm sure if you have good customer service skills, it wouldnt take long to be back up to $13 or more. Amscot financial is hiring for $11-13/hr, apartment leasing $10/hr, Disney reservations minimum $10/hr (or more depending on customer service experience), Bank of America call center $13.75/hr. These are all starting pay right off the street so it wouldnt take long to get to the $13.10/hr and you might even be able to do better in a lot of them. Plus some I've looked at offer continuing education and other benefits US doesnt. Of course all the other bennies are start over, but after 18+ years that looks like where they're headed at US anyway.
