CWA Labor Discussion 2/12---Labor Issues for CSRs ONLY

John John,
check SWA contract they are in District 142 or the IAM
they ratified a new contract I believe last may or june. top out CSA 26.00 plus an hour
DT the first minute an agent is forced into Mandatory OT.

. I'm in CLT and the agents I come in contact with
don't have any idea of who there Stewards are .

(sigh) It would be nice indeed for the US CSA folks to have the WN contract. I may not be remembering this correctly, but didn't the CWA once offer the company to go with the same contract as any of the big five (or six)? CCY (one thing you can't blame on Tempe) said "get stuffed".

If the agents don't know who the stewards are, is it the fault of the agents or the stewards?

Sidenote: the last the the cwa.net site was updated was 1/25, before that, 11/19. That is actually better than usual for that site.

john john personally, I prefer a 4hr work skd. they can have the 5.5 and only paid for 5.0 hrs.I dont need a 30min unpaid lunch.
Second issue, lower the health ins premium
Has anyone mentioned stools at counter?
Lets have some positive BENEFICIAL CHANGES FOR THE EMPLOYEES.
THANK YOU

Southwest ramp agents who are represented by TWU top out at $25.97
Southwest Operation and Airfreight agents top out a $26.35
Maybe USAirways ramp A/F OPS should change to TWU

remember UA is also working off a Bankrupt contract.
UA ramp in a lot of cities was contracted out to Air Wisconsin ground handing. They took it away from IAM mainline UA and gave it to IAM Air Wisconsin express. Whipsaw it to an express carrier
CWA should have noting to due with unionizing Piedmont for the same reason whipsawing by union and company

You all are so correct with VH. Just don't know why CWA members allow her to still sit in on any negotiations. IAM would have ditched her a long time ago. What a joke.
Ahem...we tried, and tried to have VH removed. We could not get our CWA leaders to help....give us some more suggestions on how WE can make it happen so we do not have to rely on our local presidents whom did not do much to get her out of the picture....

If she is just a secretary of some sort---why are the presidents not reminding her of that?
I have no problem getting this going again....she is nothing to me. She has mangled so much since I have become a CWA'er.

Getting people in the station involved is a joke. Our station currently has no union steward. The old timers-no disrespect as you have taught me much!!-simply are tired and do not care. They have been beat up and now just want to survive. They have had minimal support from their union so they abandoned ship quite some time ago.

Even though we are one "association"--we too are seperate. We all fall under this contract but I know firsthand that things work differently on each side of the Mississippi.

The airport CSAs have a little bit of a split personality. On one side they are (as a group) focused on helping the customers. On the other side they are working as part of a union represented group. Frequently, these sides clash and the agents usually will go with the customer side. It is hard to walk away from a customer because you are off or tell a manager he/she is helping too much when the customer line is exceptional long.

Another problem that exist in the airports is that the agents don't know their own contract and what limits are already in place. If the employee doesn't know what the contract says and doesn't speak up, the union leadership doesn't know anything either and management continues to operate the way they have always operated. So, while we can argue about who is going to represent the employees during the next negotiations, the employees have only themselves to blame when the contract is not enforce now. Their are a lot of things in there that don't need to be changed, only followed. It's about time that the airport staff realize that they are their own worst enemies, company management is quite pleased to let you continue not following the contract.

If you are really interested in what the union can do for you, you have to realize you are the part that makes it a union and you have to be active not passive. Passive employees are the company stooges.
WOW!! Thumbs up to you!

I think I was one of the "trouble makers" in the station. I made it a point to know my contract--and it was all new to me. You are so correct-no one cares about the contract until it affects them or can help them....
Management loves it that 80 percent of their station has no idea what the correct verbage is in the contract. And of course, most of the verbage is very grey!!

What to drive a manager in the station crazy? Start keeping track of everything that he/she says. Then pick out the ones that can show negativity or disrespect or even humor, write them down and send them to the region human resources manager and claim harassment and a hostile work environment. HR is mandated to investigate these charges completely and showing statements made by the manager, even out of context can get him/her fired faster then anything else.

I would like layoffs to go by seniority. I find it ricidious that in our station we have a 1983 part timer and they can be layoffed before a 2007 full timer. I find it ricidious that if there are layoffs a 2010 full timer can go to another station and bump if there are not openings but a super senior part timer can not. If part timers dont count which we learned in Vegas they do not than I don't think the union has the right to take our union dues. I don't pay due to give someone with years less seniority my job or never mind I do we had a meeting in Vegas with Griswold head of the teamsters and he couldn't care less what we think

another thing abour css under reduction in force it says if you are a css, does not say full or part time css and you cant hold your css line than you will become a full time agent the union said they did not know that america west had part time css so they are not going to honor the contract which is a legal binding contract the union should have to honor their contract their fault if they wrote it wrong
