The reason the "ask" has increased is primarily due to the price of oil. The company must meet ATSB and other creditor requirements to emerge from bankruptcy.
In addition, in bankruptcy the company is experiencing revenue deterioration due to passengers "booking away" and further costs associated with bankruptcy litigation, which the unions continue to create by opposing the company's motions.
Do I like this? Of course not. But it's reality.
In regard to each union concession I believe it's an apple and oranges comparison. The company is comparing US Airways' work groups against the LCC's in five categories: pay, seniority, benefits, retirement, and work rules. A cost cut target was set and each work group can adjust their concession in each area, as long as the total figure is obtained.
