I see that there are schedule reductions planned for LAX and SFO--I don't necessarily like that at all. Yesterday I was involuntarily rerouted due to cancellation of 172 SNA-PHL. The great folks at Chairman's called AND paged me well before departure time (THANK YOU). ALL flights from LAX were oversold yet they got me on 18 at 12:20!
It seems the demand is there.
I agree that the issue with the 757 is related more to US than the aircraft. However the 757's on the property now are pretty old, so I guess the maintenance is an issue--also reducing to 8 F class seats makes it an undesirable airplane for transcon from a frequent flier's perspective.
I am not sure of the economics, but wouldn't a daily turn PHL-LAX or SFO by the A330 make some sense? Increasing capacity without increasing frequency, and more than doubling cargo capacity SEEMS like it could make money, and could have beneficial results pertaining to aircraft utilization. It seems since crews are paid the same as 767 scale now (correct me if I am wrong), that the 330 could make money transcon. But then again, just because something makes sense, it guarantees this management WON'T do it.
In either case, I had also heard indirectly from upper management that there will be no station eliminations re the coast as well.
The question is now that US is moving SFO operations to UA, what is happening with LAX? I heard that one of the UA international lounges will become the US Air club at SFO, and there is a rumor of the same at LAX. Does anyone have any info regarding that?
