China Flights- will it happen ?

Uhhh...it was a requirement by the DOT to submit the schedule with the application. And yes, I would think that the schedule would be set in stone...with maybe only variations by 1/2 hour or less if they were to actually change it. When you decide to apply for a route like this you would have to know when you would be flying the flight to know how to plan your resources and how it would affect your daily operation. It's not that far off to know the schedule you will fly when you apply....

Here is the DOT's request

You drink way too much Kool Aid.

Should WN be given more gates to accomodate new flights when they have a history of pulling out of markets from PHL?

Why do you defend these idiots at US? WN has a far more successful business model that the bozo's who run US. I really want some of your drugs.

Will WN's expansion bring any new cities served for PHL? Doubtful. They will either enter cities US already serves or just pour on more frequencies to Florida.

Well, it looks like PHL-AUS and PHL-SAT start next March -- so, yes, WN's expansion will bring at least two new cities served non-stop from PHL. B)

Should US be allowed to keep gates that they only need six months of the year? Do we need to go through the long list of discontinued US flights from PHL?

Ok, I admit partial defeat, but they are being served once a day. Would you rather have a daily Beijing and Moscow flight or a daily San Antonio and Austin flight?

Since I don't fly to Moscow or Beijing regularly, I'll take the SAT and AUS flights thank you. And anyone who did fly Beijing or Moscow regularly would fly another carrier.

Your point is mute - I wouldn't ever fly US to Beijing or Moscow - so who cares if they fly there from PHL? For that long of a flight I would certainly fly a real airline. You would have to be nuts to subject yourself to US for that many hours.

people will call you bitter, but that is exactly what people are thinking. when they were applying for this service, i was talking to some coworkers about it and they all looked at me and said, why in God's name would you subject yourself to USAirways for that long of a trip.

All of you are a bunch of Pittsburghers pining about your beloved white elephant Pit. Please try not to tie Phl
a highly successful airport with Pit a white elephant... Sty focused ontrying to get your direct flight to Frankfurt.

The real question is would you rather have another 50-60 more flights a day or daily Beijing and Moscow (or wherever)....

Southwest Airlines will start flying nonstop next spring from Philadelphia to three additional cities as part of a long-range plan to double its service as it gets more airport gates, the airline plans to announce tomorrow.

Maybe you can explain something that Parker/Kirby haven't yet. They both say that US ran a "less than satisfactory" international operation this past summer, operating more international flights than the 16 international gates were capable of. Yet they say that they want to expand the number of international flights next summer if PHL will only let US continue to use those same 16 gates.

So how do they plan to get around the "16 gates is not enough for last summer but enough for more flights next summer" (and even more the next summer) paradox?

Or come next spring, will they be threatening PHL once again if AA doesn't get moved to "domestic" gates?

This very well could be a bluff by US, but keep in mind that CLT just announced plans to build a new international terminal. Even though PHL is the best city in terms of international service, US has to look at the future, and if PHL is maxed out, then US needs to look at alternatives. It would not be wise to cut any current international routes as they are quite profitable, CLT currently has 13 gates that it could use for international service, and with basically no compitition, the mayor, and city are with US 100%. CLT has Bank of America, and Wachovia that have many employees that travel to Europe.

Yes but -

how much international traffic originates from PHL - and how much is connecting traffic? The answer to that question would determine if CLT could actually support the level of international travel that PHL does. Just guessing here - but there are probably more international passengers originating from PHL than there will ever be from CLT - which means that moving international flights to CLT wouldn't be a very smart business decision - but then again - that probably wouldn't stop this management team from doing it anyway.

I think everyone would be fine with that....BUT WHEN THEY BUILD THE HAMMERHEAD!!! Not by permanently moving Delta and its domestic operations to the international terminal. Like I said earlier, if Southwest wants to expand that much AND THEY NEED THE GATES....MAKE THEM USE THE REMOTE STANDS AND PEOPLE MOVERS!! To take these gates away from US Airways is just wrong...no way around it....I know you all hate US and will do anything to disparage it....but this IS NOT in the best interest of the city.
