Checking in on the East Metal 12 hours prior for Non Reving

I called the Philly Crew Room Service Center and asked about checking in 12hrs prior and he said f/a's have checked in (with No problems), both ETC and Via our 1-800#. When I asked him how they did it via the ETC he replied (get this)
"I don't know, I don't commute".
Ok, well your job in the crew room service center is to assist f/a's with their questions sooooooo........
Next I called the 1 800 # like he suggested and after 20 minutes on hold I reached South America where he told me he could not check me in.

Help For Commuters!

I don't see anywhere on the ETC where we can "check-in" for EAST METAL, only West. Any suggestions besides going to the Airport 4 hours prior?

Does anyone know how this is being handled for commuters? Do we have to check in 12hrs prior?
Thank You!

If you non-rev on east metal and it's a thru-flight, (the flight # remains the same but it stops in an intermediate airport)do you get to keep your seat when you get there or do you have to be put back on the list for the next flight? Or would you be bumped by a higher priority nonrev at the intermediate stop?

You have priority. Can only be bumped by a paying passenger. Normally you have the same seat all the way though, double check when you get your ticket.

Hey Career. According to the Hub, Web Check in for East Metal flights is not working yet. I copied the info for you. Hope this helps.

ETC Web Check-In Unavailable for East Metal Itineraries
March 5, 2007

The Employee Travel Center returned online as scheduled yesterday following the Res migration scheduled outage. Unfortunately at this time, Web check-in is not working for East metal itineraries. IT is working as quickly as possible to solve the issue, but we do not have an estimated time. We will let you know when this function is up and running again.

In the meantime, if you are traveling on East metal, you can check in at the airports up to four hours in advance of your flight.

Employees may have also encountered some troubles with the Employee Travel Center (ETC), particularly related to the site’s speed. It may be running slowly in these first days, due to the increased number of employees making changes to listings; but we’re confident that it will be a convenient tool for you and your travelers – and not just a drain of your time.

Not to get too technical here, but you could get bumped by a higher seniority non-rev who is also traveling on a through flight. I also thought that if were connecting you were simply moved up to the highest priority within your class, (unless another more senior person w/in your priority is also connecting),meaning an originating SA3 would board before a connecting SA4, but I could be wrong here.

Regarding web check-in, there was a blurb about it in yesterday's US Daily saying that it now works for both east and west metal. I haven't tried it myself yet, but it does list all cities system wide now so I'm guessing it should work.

From US Daily 3/6/2007:

Web Check-in for US Flights - Now Available
Since the SHARES cutover, employees traveling on US metal have remained unable to use online check-in; however, this issue has been fixed and that functionality is now available. To repeat: Non-rev web check-in now works systemwide, for both East and West itineraries.

Travelers can now go to awaCompass or theHub to check in for a flight and print boarding passes up to 12 hours in advance and up to 90 minutes before the flight.

New SA1s to Arrive Soon
Also, for employees wondering about their additional SA1 pass - which was allocated once we switched to seniority boarding - the extra pass is set to be added to users’ profiles in mid-March so be sure to check your on-line profile at that time.

You would think it would be part of ETC, but it is not.

There is a button on thehub on the right side of the screen for web check in.

As for that person in the crew room not having your answer, it could be because the company isn't very good at putting out information, and training on SHARES is virtually nonexistant.

Thank you for the information.

You are right about the Crew Room.
I forgot who I was working for.

Unless something has changed, and it may well have but if 2 people are non-reving on the same connecting flight, with the same flt #, the only way they can be bumped off is by a paying passenger. If someone is getting bumped it would be the jr one. With the addition of SA1's into the mix recently I still think they can't bump you off. SA1 are priority boarding of a particular flight at a station. These non-revs are already on from a previous flight.

I commuted home yesterday on east metal. I checked in online on the ETC. There was a button at the top right corner that said HP check-in. I clicked on it and entered the record locator and clicked on the originating city (PHL). Then I got my boarding pass and printed it out once I was checked in. When I got to the gate where my flight was departing, the gate agent told me to go to a different gate because there was an agent who was taking care of the non revs since they had a long line of passengers. So, I stood in line for about 20 minutes to get my seat assignment. Then, they told me I was already checked in but they couldn't issue me a seat assignment that I had to go back to the other gate where my flight was leaving. I explained that they sent me to their gate and that I didn't know what was going on with the new system. So, I went back to the other gate and a supervisor who was helping the agent with the non-revs walked over and helped the agents at my gate. Then, the agent cleared all the non-revs. We all gave her our names and employee numbers and she wrote them down and told us to take whatever open seat we could find. We didn't get a boarding pass but I did hand the agent the one I printed off.
