What's new

Caremark

Recently Caremark shot me an email stating they noticed I filled a prescription at my local pharmacy.
The email reminded me how easy it is to call and have my prescriptions filled by them.
Apparently if you sign up online with Caremark and you fill elsewhere, they are notified, then they notify you that they were notified.

That's a little unnerving.
Why? CareMark is our distributor so of course they will get information concerning your prescriptions. How else would they track multiple and redundant prescriptions? Who would keep track of 12 different scripts for narcotics?

it's one thing to track for check and balances
it's another to contact the individual and inform them that "we noticed you".....
that's more like an invasion of privacy.

This does not break any HIPAA laws concerning privacy. CareMark has access to your medication records, and is your provider. It would be like your primary care physician calling you at home to say, "Career Reserve, we noticed that you are (late, missed, have, do not have, need to, etc...)".

My partner and I both work for US Airways and the company's prescription coverage is Caremark. So my partner takes Adderall XR for ADD and since there is not a generic for it, the co pay is $50. Caremark told him that since this is a medication he would be taking every day that he would have to mail in the prescription. Ok, only problem is his doctor will only write a 1 month prescription, they have this whole get 3 months for the price of 2 thing. Plus Adderall XR's highest dose is 30mg and he takes 40mg, 2 20mg pills a day. So I sent him the last prescritpion for 60 pills, a one month supply. Caremark sends me a bill for $100. When I called them, they said it was because it was a 2 month supply. After they looked at the prescription and saw that it was 60 pills for twice a day, then the story changed to oh, well US Airways says the co pay on this is $100. Ok, well they why is it when I get it filled at Walgreens, its only $50?? Then the guy has the nerve to tell me that since Adderall is such a controlled substance, that I don't have to mail it in, I can go to the pharmacy every month. Again, not what they told me before. Anyhoo...I sent and email to someone in Tempe and got a call from Caremark this week apologizing for the mix up and that I would only need to pay the $50 co pay. YAY! My question is, are any of you other employee's having a problem with Caremark?? I know a few other people that have but just taking a poll here.
Thanks.

My scrip went from $60 for a 3 month supply to $100 for the same 3 month supply! They do Suck!!

I can't do WalMart. I am not a big fan of theirs. I will have to check around though. Thanks for the info though.

I agree with you on the Walmart issue. We only fill perscriptions their because of the price. A family of 5 can run up the copays fast.

Same reason the Kettle family can only buy cheap fares on your airline.

So what can you do you to add value and justify a higher price?

Charge for the incrementals perhaps?

Caremark has been a problem since day one - I have filed and won several grievances reguarding them - not a wonder they hold the record for the largest fine from the FDA. They are famous for thier formulary being based on which drug companies give the largest kickbacks.
Obviously you have not heard of:

Insurance Rules

It is like scheduling rules.

I have been using Caremark for many years now for drugs related to a Kidney Transplant. Though the copay for the drug is 100.00 for a 3 month supply, I have never had any problems and the support staff has always been helpful and courteous. It would be nice however if it is true that effective 1-09 we would be able to get our 3 months supply from a local CVS pharmacy. As it stands, you are only allowed to get a 30 day supply for 3 months before you are forced to use the mail order. All and all, I am very happy with them.

The local CVS deal is put in place per the contract your company has with them, it would not hurt to inquire now what changes are being made to your plan.

I wouldn't go in a filthy WalMart or Sam's Club if they were giving away their inventory. I don't think I'd go in if they were paying me to take their stuff.

Mr. Sam is rolling over in his grave with what his greedy children have done to that company and the retailing business in general.

I'm with you. But about once a year I forget about how bad Wal-mart sucks and I find myself there in a line at the checkout that is like 30 minutes long. I wait in line for about five minutes and then leave, cursing under my breath that I should have remembered why I never go to Wal-mart.

I prefer Wal Mart.
I call in my refills, and pick it up-no problem.
Now Care Mark..God help them!
They stink!

I had several issues with them-if you have UNC or BS/Bs this is who this company uses..
The only way to DROP CAREMARK IS COMPLAIN,COMPLAIN,COMPLAIN!

How effective it will be is beyond me.I've complained to my union rep-

Personally, when I want to get my scripts, I dont want to do mail order and wait.I dont give a rats behind how good they are. I've had my experience with them...
