Bye bye Tulsa

I actually have not seen it Old Guy, but it'd be interesting to check out though. I'll definitely check it out and get back to you. Without having seen it, I have a hard time seeing how a line mechanic worth a hill of beans failing it though. But, who knows?  When we bumped into DFW, there were 5 or 6 B checks here, and they wouldn't let any mechanic bid the line til they'd passed the test; a class 1 station procedure at the time. We also had SIX MONTHS to make an attempt to pass the test!! How it is now? I have no clue.

And, Old Guy, "I" am NOT making an attempt to "continue" or "try to start an argument" between line and O/H. YOU, my friend, made the statement that "Very Few" Line mechanics could pass the test in YOUR opinion. That's why I made the statement that it seemed a little silly for you to say that... Don't turn this around on me...Good Lord!!!

And, for the record, I'm not a TWU fan, much less a candidate for the International as you seem to think. I've signed AMFA cards since my first days in TULE in 1991.  Here we go again....this is one thing about this forum that sucks. An intelligent thread starts, then is transformed into a TWU/AMFA thrashing/bashing battle. Watch a thread start about the new engine oil serving program on the line, and suddenly Bob Owens turns it into how the TWU *^&***ked it up and AMFA could've done it better. Not that this is what YOU Old Guy have done with our correspondence, but you've come close claiming that I need to be in the international. That's a bunch of malarkey dude.....you don't even know me. Have a good day Old Guy :D
+1

What's so special about DFW? You people sound like its the garden of Eden.
It's an easy commute home to family and no state taxes/cost of living. Most people who need to bump are in survival mode so DFW has the best survival atmosphere.

Good post!!
But Old Guy did specify new hire line Techs and as far as the test is concerned it is open book I assume and I ain't skeered no test.

I believe the thread is "Bye bye Tulsa". If using your seniority in Tulsa in a layoff and/or being forced to take a new line test is not relevant to this thread then I must ask how anyone could come to that conclusion. The new A25 test has a total of over 600 written questions that the tester can choose any 10. You must get 7 of them right. I have been researching answers to these questions and just in the first 60 (that is how far I have gotten so far) I have found a few that there is no specific answer for in the GPM that is referred to. This shows me it can be set up to be unpassable and I have not even got to the practicle yet. I realize that after years of experience any line mechanic is more than capable of doing the job. My point is there is no line mechanic that was an expert on day one. Someone had to show all of you a few things. A new hire would have to be shown everything. There was nothing wrong with the old test. The new one is just another way AA can stomp on our seniority. But like I have said before. They'll screw Tulsa now and then they will get around to really screwing the line guys when we are gone. But I guess this has nothing to do with the topic that eludes to the demise of Tulsa. And yes Bloodhound, if you are in favor of all this then you do have what it takes to be in the TWU international. After all you got yours right? I guess in your opinion, a thread that is titled "Bye bye Tulsa" must be all about DFW right? Please tell me what this thread is about so I don't upset you and AANOTOK. And 2ndGENAMT, be afraid of this test. Be very afraid of this test.

Good thing I'm decent at bobbing and weaving there OldGuy, or you might have nailed me with that shot! :)

Hey AANOTOK, it's all in good fun right? I was just seeing if you were paying attention. You are alright in my book. Bloodhound, I would really like to hear your opinion of the new A-25 test. Compared to the old test it is much more involved and it is a two day test. The practical is a series of timed tasks with a large pool of them for the tester to choose from. I think there are lots of ways for someone to be bamboozled by a tester with an agenda. But the truth be told, with the series of layoffs ahead and the few numbers per round expected, the majority of the bumps will be at JFK,and LGA since they have been hiring there for a while. Not many will actually bump there. The smart guys like you went to DFW years ago and stayed. I admire you for doing what many of us should have done long ago. Maybe when they build the hangar down there I can bid there. If and when I do I will buy you a beer and we can talk bad about the overhaul guys. hahaha

You are sure awful grumpy for an Old Guy!!! Where can I find the test? I'm definitely curious about it....

this is the written

this is the practical.

Yeah I have been accused of being grumpy. But OldGuys are supposed to be grumpy aren't we? Let us know what you think. I am interested to know if you think it is fair. I think 656 possible written questions and 63 possible practical tasks are way too many to expect someone to study and prepare for. I can only imagine how long it would take to study all these. But I'll be interested in your opinion. But I'll have to check tomorrow. It's 8:30 and time for an OldGuy to go to bed. haha

Has anyone thought about the fact that in layoffs past, people usually got recalled back to their original locations?

The future could very well be different.

Thanks for those pdf files Old Guy. I wanted to check them out at work tonight, but with this darn ice/freezing rain storm that came thru tonight, DFW was REALLY messed up, and we were chasing planes all over the terminal...these storms create THE worst state of confusion at DFW!! Anyway, had no time...hopefully I can check them out tomorrow and I'll definitely give you my opinion. But, with 656 possible questions, it sounds kinda rigged...who knows?
Cheers,
BH

You are ABSOLUTELY right MetalMover, but who knows AA's strategy going into the future with the "New American".  Also, think about this....once some guys bump into a line station, they really, really enjoy that environment. And, that individual may have seniority on you, refuse the recall, and BAM you're next on the recall list and are back in T-Town!!! There's several AMT's who have bumped the line from TUL and refused the recall, myself included. And, on the flip-side, I've worked with people who commuted for upwards of 20 years to Nashville from DFW.

Either way, whatever happens, I just wish all TUL AMT's the best. I have friends there that I've known since '91, and even with that kind of seniority, they're expressing doubts about their jobs...who knows?

Living in Nashville or DFW is nothing like living in NY.
