While exchanging a belated holiday greeting with a friend up in BOSTON, I was informed that the following occured, over the Xmas weekend.

1. High sick call volume(no surprise there)
2. Ticket /gate supervisors "WING WALKING A/C IN + OUT" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3. Supervisors running "INBOUND BAGS" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4. Supervisors bringing empty container dollies "FROM A/F to the RAMP" !!!!!
And the BEST ONE of ALL
5. Supervisors "DE-ICING AA AIRPLANES" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now BEFORE I can blame the International, BEFORE I can blame the "lame duck" local 507 president, who got voted out of office effective 12/31/04, BEFORE I can blame the incoming 507 president effective 1/1/05, I ask this VERY simple question;

WHERE WAS THE "OUTRAGE" by the TWU fsc's, who were working side by side with management ???????????????????????????????????
AND I'M NOT REFERING TO "VOCAL" OUTRAGE !!!

I'm shocked, beyond words, that this blatent violation of the contract was ALLOWED to proceed forward, even for 60 seconds !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can ANYONE out there TOP this "ABORTION" ????????????????????????

"Meaning" ??

Meaning for all intensive purposes AA is a non-union company, we have no union, we just pay dues.

Totally Worthless Union.

If the company can slash your wages, take away your holidays, vacation sick time etc why should seeing them have management do work be a cause for outrage?

At this point many are starting to look at a layoff as a Godsend, it gives the chance to make a new start with the financial help that layoffs are entitled to.

By the way, what happened in the election up there? Did the incumbant get voted out or did he simply not run again?

It means that the TWU will do nothing about this. They won't grieve it, they won't say boo about it.

Hey Bear;

The BOS thing is no surprise. Here in TUL company has directly back-filled TWU vancies with mangement staff. Grievances have been filed with nil results. Same type of story....different location.

"they can do that" Here at DFW it is a common saying. It stems back about 8-10 yrs ago. During a local TWU election campagn, the FSCs were being slammed with rule changes and local agreements. When queried the local team in power responded with "they can do that". The phrase soon became a rally cry for a new regime to oust the old acquiescers. It is also used to signify the lack of leadership from the local. The phrase is still often used at DFW to this day.

The planned layoff was recinded, but was transformed into down grades to part time. There wasn't much of management doing union work, but what there was wasn't tolerated very long. The biggest problem was since they outsourced the overnight cabins, there is no one to force to stay in the event of heavy call-ins. The guys who were then were overwhelmed by a 103% laod factor and bad weather. And after awile you get so burnt out, seeing a supervisor throwing bags is the least of your problems.

OK, Bears, what was supposed to happen? You can't white-slip people from home...

And yes, "they can do that"....

TWU Contract Article 1 (B) said:
In an emergency, supervisors, flight crews and other employees may perform or assist in performing any work that may be necessary to complete a particular operation. Where employees are reasonably available in point of time to adequately handle the situation on a regular, overtime, or field trip basis, the situation will not be deemed to be an emergency within the meaning of this paragraph.

Throwing management into the operation is a last ditch effort, so assuming everyone who could have been held on overtime was held, I don't believe there was anyone else reasonably available.

You are right on!

TWU= Totally Without Union

Funny, how you union guys talk so much about how great Southwest is, but you wouldn't ever give AA the flexibility Southwest has with its unions.

SWA gets work rule flexibility with its unions because the Management RESPECTS the employees and UNDERSTANDS that the employees make the company!

AA management will never understand this concept!
