BAGGAGE HANDLERS THREAD

How old is the US Airways fleet? What aircraft do you have in your livery? Who do you use for a regional feeder?

They own PSA and Piedmont and use many other carriers for Express.

Everything is in the newer current livery, with the exception of a few Express A/C. Most of the Airbus A/C are fairly new, and the older part of the fleet is made up of the Boeings. The 737-400's are being phased out, and at this point the 757/767's are going to remain in the fleet for a bit longer. I do feel that their retirement will be expedited by the merger.

I hate to keep harping on this but where is it that the US Fleet Service and Maintenance agreed to anything?

This is from the new website
"Clear Pathway to Completion ""

" We believe we have a clear pathway to completion, given the complementary nature of our networks. Furthermore, there are no financing conditions or additional approvals from labor unions needed.
In terms of next steps, the combination must be approved by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York, and is subject to regulatory approvals, customary closing conditions and approval by US Airways shareholders. We expect the transaction to be completed in the third quarter of 2013."

ON THE IAM WEBSITE IAM141 THEY DO NOT SUPPORT THE MERGER UNTIL THE AGREEMENTS WITH US AND THEIR OWN UNION ARE IN PLACE
I ALSO THINK BUT NOT SURE THAT M&R IS THE SAME WAY

Yes both district 141 and 142 put out a joint statement.

The IAM declared renewed contracts for its US Airways members must be concluded before the IAM is willing to support the merger of US Airways and American Airlines.

“IAM members at US Airways need and deserve contracts now,” said IAM District 141 President Rich Delaney following the announcement that US Airways and American Airlines intend to merge and form the world’s largest airline. “The Machinists Union will not allow US Airways to stall our members’ contract negotiations while it devotes its attention to merging with American Airlines. The IAM is prepared to support this merger only if it provides real value to employees.”
“The IAM has been in negotiations with US Airways to amend existing contracts for approximately two years,” said IAM District 142 President Tom Higginbotham. “US Airways, however, is more concerned with courting American Airlines than negotiating with its own employees.”

While US Airways and American Airlines declared their intention to merge, the pairing still faces many obstacles, including shareholder and regulatory approval.

IAM Air Transport Districts 141 and 142 represent more than 14,000 Mechanics and Related, Fleet Service, Maintenance Instructors and Stockroom employees at US Airways, making it the largest union at the airline. More information about the Machinists Union and the proposed merger is available at www.usaamerger.com.

Well I guess this is the IAMs one and only chance to shine. Will their presence in the industry continue to wane or will they bounce back by taking both Ramp and M&R from the TWU much like how the TWU took everything in TWA? Negotiate a deal that does what Parker claims he is willing to do and then challenge the TWU for a runoff and despite their smaller numbers the IAM could walk away with the whole thing.

Guess it depends on how Parker really feels, does he want labor peace or is he willing to see a lot of discontent and turnover in exchange for super low rates?

We shall see.

Under current conditions if there was a vote there is a good chance M&R would choose "No Union", not sure how fleet feels as AA's Fleet is not as far behind the rest of the industry as M&R. If the IAM pulled off a contract that puts us ahead of UAL and Delta they would IMO even get the Tulsa vote. But they better be quick, the clock is ticking for both Unions. Bottom of the industry doesnt buy loyalty.Ten years has taken its toll.

I was talking to some ex-TWA rampers yesterday. They are pushing for the IAM to replace the TWU. Apparently they have been told by the IAM that their TWA full seniority will be restored if the IAM kicks out the TWU. If that happens, there is going to be a war.

Maybe if the IAM wasn't playing footsie with the company for the past year and a half, we wouldn't be in this position. Before anyone chimes in, I'm referring to Fleet.

Did you see the TA that the IAM just got for CSA, Ramp and Stores at UA?

Company seniority? Likely (if it isn't already in effect).

Occupational and/or classification seniority reset to DOH? I doubt it.
