Considering that you went from a proposal that eliminated ALL utility, with no provision for recall into anything anywhere... I think you should be glad that you got what you got.

Add on top the ability for your people to still travel and cash out sick time, then that seems like a heck of a lot better deal even to those who might be laid off than your "burning down the house" method.

You keep telling us that people will not vote themselves out of a job again and again, but why would they rather shoot themselves in the foot like you suggest instead.

Something is always better than nothing.

It might not be as good as it was, but we all, you included, knew that those times were coming to an end.

Time to make the most of it and move on with things...

Must be a sin for any company to try and make money eh---capitalism---not socialism--is where we're at----can't imagine Home Depot and Lowe's fighting it out with unions in their mist----"thats not my job" will not cut it. One of these forum rats said awhile back that "its a good union member that won't do anothers job" --in these times the job just needs to get done. My .02$

I agree, unions ARE a good thing. Unions ARE needed to protect the rights of the employee without being used as a crutch. However, the “union mentality†needs to change, or evolve if you will. It is no longer feasible to have a man/woman for every nut and bolt on the property. The unions are archaic in their approach to business, and that needs to change.

I know the following is a little out of line, but not by much:
Tom: “Well, that A/C is ok to sign-off as soon as that bolt gets tightened down.â€
Sup. Jack: “Well tighten it and get it out of here.â€
Tom: “I can’t, that’s Fred’s job and he has 2 more A/C to work on.â€

Maybe it’s my old Army mentality kicking in, but when a job needs to get done…. get it done. Just because I was Commo doesn’t mean I waited for an Engineer to dig my defensive position. There were plenty of times where I had grunts help toss up an antenna. Why? It’s called teamwork, and the drive to get the job done. When I went to work for an IT firm I didn’t just hide behind the computer screen if something I knew how to do needed to get done. Phone problem, sure I’ll look at it. Electrical problem, let me look into it. Why? I had the training why not use it? It’s called diversification and while not exactly new, it is a necessity in today’s business world.

I realize that some will slam this, and that’s just the nature of this board most days. To those whom cannot help themselves with the jerk-knee negative reactions I ask, what have YOU done for yourself? There are many people that post on these boards that have moved on in life, and found ‘greener pasturesâ€.
- Mechanics: You see that the most airline companies are outsourcing their aviation maintenance needs. Instead of bemoaning your situation why not do something for YOU. Band together with a few of your like-minded coworkers and open your own maintenance company. Why shouldn’t those dollars be coming to you? YOU have the skills, use them.
- Flight Attendants: YOU are probably one of the most diversified groups in the business. Why not open your own PR or Business relations firm? YOU have the people skills that most companies would die for, so why not offer that service on YOUR terms.
- Pilots: Why not open a training school? GA is going to grow by leaps and bounds in the future as aircraft get smaller and technology gets faster. YOU have the skills to be on the frontline for this future growth.

These are just some very basic ideas, but hopefully you get the drift. The “I’ve been here for XX years, and can’t go anywhere else†argument is old and busted. How many more years are you willing waste in a job that according to you is no longer worth it? You all have skills and drive. Grab some of your friends, do your homework, and step out of your comfort zone. The road is hard, and not with out bumps. From personal experience it’s worth it.
