Another Reason Why The Pit Hub Will Be Gone

Two hubs in the state of PA will NEVER make sense for any airline. One of the two hubs has to go (and probably should have gone years ago.)

If Pittsburgh had 4 million people like Philadelphia than it would stay a hub, but with 1 million people the County cannot provide sufficient O&D traffic in today's low yield environment.

From a business perspective, the company needs to fly its aircraft where it can make money.

Do I like it? No, especially since I live near Pittsburgh, but I understand the business decision.

Respectfully,

PIT is a huge part of why US is sinking, I'm sorry but i shouldn't have to fly to PIT from LGA to get where I want to go. I might as well fly DL, AA, or even B6. The NY market is more profitable then PIT nowadays, isn't it?

At least AA knew that STL wasn't worth it.

I still applaud US for signing for only 10 gates.
they close pit and you'll be flying lga/clt then so wheres the improvement?

I truly believe some on this board have missed their calling......instead of working for a living they should be in CCY, behind the mighty doors, collecting their retention bonus, and pretending to try and return U to profitability. :p

Hate to burst your bubble USA320pilot. The population of metropolitan Pittsburgh is 2,242,798.

Also, I see the Post-Gazette did a feature article about you in today's business section.  http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/04032/267637.stm:

The anonymous postings on bulletin boards on such Web sites as usaviation.com, justplanenews.com and biz.yahoo.com include speculation or, at times, seemingly definitive statements about the company's plans

Another GLOOM & DOOM thread started by our dear friend USA320Pilot. Let's face it, USAirways is dying and EVERYONE knows it. There is no one to blame but you and your management. They've tried to blame the customers, they've blamed the intrusion of SW, they've blamed anyone that sounds like a good target. Your own boss and owner make public statements that make you and them look like children fighting in the sandbox. Ever notice that the USAirways board here is the busiest? That the only news that comes out is in print and TV is negative? Nothing ever positive.

Pull the plug because US is a DNR = Do Not Resusitate.

AKA,
you post is right on taget! Both MGT and the employee group are to blame.
And they are sinking fast

XJT, once again you are an outsider looking in.

The employees don't run the company, the employees have stepped up to the plate TWICE to a tune of $1.1 billion and 20,000 jobs.

Management has failed this company not its employees.

If you say its the employees then prove it.

We all know this management team could not find its way out of a paper bag.

700,
Once again my father has 28 years with US and my sister has 15 with US. It is my family's well being and I will see it this afternoon at dinner with them.

I care!

I would also like to distinguish between city of Pittsburgh, as covered in that article, and the metro area. While obviously the city of Pittsburgh is a big driver in the region's economy it is not the only one and many affluent suburbs are prospering well. In any case, I do agree that the PIT hub will be gotten, because it is the weakest link in the very weak chain that is USAirways.. but the rest of the chain will disappear soon enough....

usa320pilot, Your predictions are about as accurate as a drunken sailer with a ougi (Sp?) board - I know because I was a drunken sailer. Anyway, here are 3 of my predictions

1) UA will survive - US will not (although like the other vultures they will pick at the bones)
2) As the ship really starts sinking you will ask (beg) everyone else to cut their throats so you can save your pecious liitle world.
3) In 1 year or so you will be giving flying lessons to old ladies in Pensacola, FL.

Regards,

XJTguy,

Ask your father and sister if they feel they have FAILED this company and blame themselves as you cite. Ask them if they stepped up to the plate twice when called to do so.

Ask them if they feel everyone, including our loyal pax who have also given concessions through unrationilized and unreasonable fares and buying of their food on board, and still choose to fly our airline has let this company down.

1) Not all of US's fares have been unreasonable. Believe it or not, sometimes the route and times you want on Orbitz or Expedia turn up US Airways as the cheapest solution.

2) How many airlines or even LCCs give free meals on trans flights? Sprit Airlines sells a snack box for crying out loud.
