AMP vs TWU which one is more Democratic?

Unfortunately, there are always a few that believe what propaganda is put forth in the press. The company does have a push on the run a 24/7 operation but they don't intend to pay for it. Sorry Charlie - ain't happening.

They'd prefer to take things from younger employees (not lesser senior) that had been promised. That ain't happening either. That's bordering on, if not outright, age discrimination.

The twu convinced the company that the higher senior people would buy into the rest of the contract as the higher senior had done for many contracts previously - "Hose the kids", they say, "I've got mine". Nearly 70% thought otherwise, "It stops with me" is more like what the membership was thinking.

Both the union and company are standing before the mediator with a family-sized helping of egg on their faces and my minimums of an acceptable contract have risen due to the defacto insults from the "union and company. Others need to develop the same attitude as there will be, no doubt, "wonderous" changes in forthcoming contracts that will save all of humanity from itself, bring the ozone layer back, etc. and et al.

... and if you believe Stewart of the Tulsa World speaks for anyone besides himself and companies who feed him articles to publish, you're badly mistaken.

i like your responce.

I recall some posts asking about age discrimination before the TA was rejected; the US Supreme Court ruled in 2004 that age discrimination where older workers were helped and younger workers were harmed wasn't illegal under the ADEA. The case reads like a roadmap for the changes sought by AA: http://www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/02-1080.ZS.html

It's only illegal where the company favors younger workers at the expense of older workers.

But what happens if that older worker happens to have less Senority than the younger worker?------ Prime example, an exTWA AMT working at AFW?

WORD PROBLEM

Joe has been a twu member for 23 years and currently pays 652.00 per year in union dues. Joe ate a chili dog at last months union meeting valued at .49 cents. How many chili dogs does Joe need to eat, per meeting, to re-coup his 652.00 dollars per year?

come now some would say that chilli dog was worth only .10 cents 23 years ago or some would say that chilli dog is worth $2.50 in todays dallors.

Hey you really get chilli dogs? we get donuts thanks alot Joe. Jacked again

Doesn't change the legality of the discrimination. It's the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, not the Seniority Discrimination in Employment Act. Older workers can screw over younger workers without violating federal law.

Sorry this was off the thread subject, but I believe that the TWU has no accountability to us therefore I think they are more like a socialist operation rather then elected organization.
Aren't all unions "socialist organizations" pretty much by definition?

yes, but some unions you can actually vote out your union leaders if they don't do what the members want.

I wonder if the southern states would actually vote to do away with a union at AA if given the chance. I might based on the fact that the TWU hasn't negotiated anything more then what the company was giving to the agents.

ANSWER

After 23 years, Joe can't stand chili dogs, but must choke down 111 per meeting to re-coup his $652.00. If you haven't already, please sign an AMP card, so we can have the opportunity to vote for a democratic union of skilled workers.
Thanks

In our local you can vote out any Local leader at any time. Its in our Bylaws. We tried to put it in the Constitution at the Convention but you know how those things go, sometimes people get tapped on the shoulder for a title and everything changes.

Bob,

Is their a provision in the TWU constitution that allows you to recall an Officer?

The real question is can the membership vote in, or recall a international officer? Hey CIO, Jim Little made 249.703.00 in 2010. Did you see the latest LM2 ? What a waist of hard earned union dues !
NEWS FLASH The long awaited Dept of Labor filing on the TWU pay is out and they all got raises in 2010.....did you?
Jim Little.............................................3.75% to $249,703.00
John Conley........................................7.1% to $186,500.00
Gary Drummond.................................4.7% to $173,481.00
Robert Gless.......................................3.5% to $171,453.00
Marlene Borisuck (Jim's Secretary)...........10% to $140,853.00
How many of these people did you see on a ballot???????
