AMFA Mechanics contract.08/ 2012

AA89,

It's true about the million plus in 401K/profit sharing accounts. But you have to remember, these guys that were hired 84-88 have all also had numerous splits of all there stocks. I do know of a couple that built up to and over 2 million, but lost alot, and are now recouped back to 1.5 million. These guys are constantly moving their stuff and working the system. All you Southwest guys know who I.m talking about.

Not to mention we had millionairs retire along time ago, but had to come back to work do to a certain investment that went wrong, but yes, when they retired they were in the millions.

I would also like to add that the majority of the latest new hires have been AA'ers. 80% of the resent new hires are AA'ers. We just had a new list posted for mechs to be tested, and yet again there are many AA'ers on the list. They are being tested this week. As long as they pass their test they will move onto the interviewing proccess. Good luck to all you guys that are testing and interviewing...

Yeah after I thought about the 401K match y'all have and the stock price over the last 30 years I could see it being possible if the market was timed right. Maybe when AA reissues stock some of us can ride a similar wave into retirement.
Great move for the guys leaving AA and lucky enough to get on with you guys. If I had less seniority I might try as well. Thanks for those heads up.

No prob AA89. I will still post when externals are posted. It's kind of a timing game. Gotta get in quick. The last posting was up for 3 days I think. That is considered a long time.

Does anyone know what the upcoming changes do the insurance is going to be?? I heard the entire program is changing and its going to incorporate attendance somehow.

I haven't heard about this. Ill look into it.

Oh the sky is falling and the company has no money. But they still want to talk about paid rest and day trades?? That is f**king funny!!

C'mon man. You guys know the routines. First, 'the state of the industry speach' then the 'we are currently expanding GO buildings and continue to rebuild other infrastructures'. They will always continue, 'the sky is falling'. Later on when this starts to get close or beyond their time frame to have it done, they will start to deny any and all greivences, sending all to sys board or arbitration. Then when that fails to get the mechs to jump quicker, they will pull the overtime plug and shut down the overtime in an effort to get mechs to vote or apply pressure. Typical company movements while in nego's...

Please please do not get in a big hurry to sign in a new contract or extension. And also an extension is where everything in our current contract stays the same! The only thing I see that could be changed in our contract on an extension is for our base pay to increase some for us agreeing to and extension.

Thank you for finally answering the question that I asked a month or so ago!! I'd asked how previous negotiations have gone and a time line of what to expect, maybe I didn't ask it clearly enough but the company tactics is what I was looking for. That way we all have an idea, meaning the newly subscribed AMFA members at SWA (former AT) and we know what to look for and what to watch out for. Not to say that 350+ votes makes up the majority but, as you've seen in our negotiations, about 80% of these mechanics are always yes votes because they fall for the propaganda and fear mongering. Information like this gives us a clearer picture of what to expect and may turn a good amout of swing voters in the right direction.. Thank you!

Like I said before, I predict we won't see any kind of TA to vote on for at least 24 months from Aug 16.
Be patient and don't listen to company pressure.

We have been here before, your AMFA reps should keep you informed along the way. Updates will be posted and you can call or email most reps for answers if you feel like you are out of the loop.

Unlike the IBT, you will be able to know what is happening during the negotiation process.

The AMFA local 11 website is a good place to start. But making contact with an ALR is the best information possible.

I think the information will flow better to you guys after you are AMFA and your reps and locals are determined.

The Negotiating Committee is providing this update to the AMFA Membership at Southwest Airlines. This is the only official authorized source of negotiating communications by the Committee.
On September 12th we met with the Company in the Texas Stadium Conference Room at the Hangar in Dallas. During our session in August the Company expressed a desire to accomplish these negotiations in an expedited manner; therefore, this session was scheduled for only one day. The Company explained they would like to provide AMFA with a comprehensive proposal in an attempt to further expedite the negotiation process. The Company arrived at 9:00AM and informed our Committee that they needed more time to get their proposal together and they would be back at 12:30PM. At about 12:30PM, Jim Sokol and Mike Ryan addressed the Committee and explained that they would be unable to present their proposal by the end of the day.
The Committee understands that there are many rumors circulating on the floor regarding the Company’s intent for these negotiations, one of the major ones being the fourth line of heavy maintenance. What we can say is that the Company does not desire to start a fourth line of heavy maintenance in house this coming year; however, they also explained that if they could not negotiate to relieve them of their contractual obligation, they would continue the process of starting the fourth line. Also, from the discussion we have had with the Company they have explained that they would be willing to financially reward our members for contractual relief. AMFA has explained that it is highly unlikely we would negotiate away the fourth line of maintenance as we strongly believe that the Scope of our work is the very heart of the Contract! The Company requests that we review their package and give them a chance before AMFA declines. The Negotiating Committee stated we would look at anything brought forward in writing.
Until the Company presents their package, our Committee continues to identify other items we believe the Company would like to address in that proposal such as the length of agreement, pay scale, outsourcing, job security, sick leave, and the additions of the new work groups into the agreement (time, money, scope/security, accreted groups and productivity). We all need to realize that they are only the Company’s verbalized wish list and have seen nothing in writing. Like us, the Company has a comprehensive list of proposals to consider and bargain over. Therefore, please don’t become discouraged by this information or rumors on the floor.
Our Committee feels that you deserve to be well informed as to what takes place during negotiations, and we believe that you understand positions change quickly - what you hear today my not be true tomorrow. We are confident that you understand that and will continue to perform your job under our current agreement in a professional manner. Please realize these negotiations are in the very early stages and at this point, next to nothing has happened.
Both sides are committed to making a concerted effort to reach an agreement that addresses our members’, and the Company’s, concerns. Our Committee would like to thank the observers that took the time to attend.
Sincerely,
Your Negotiating Committee
Upcoming Negotiation Date: Tentatively October 10th and 11th, in Dallas, Time and Location to be Determined
