AMFA Mechanics contract.08/ 2012

The company never wants it done quickly unless they really want something from us.

But even if they did want this one quick, it ain't gonna happen.

There is too much to get done with the other classifications to be added to this contract.

And money is always the last thing settled after language changes.

I still say there will be no TA to vote on for at least 2 years.

How about union seniority with regards to pay rate, with consolidation of airlines, some of us over the yrs have had to change carriers due to no fault of our own the companies just went out of business. Having to start over at the bottom of the pay scale each time is not right. having the union seniority would mean that if you belong to AMFA and went to another carrier AMFA represented what ever pay rate you were at, you take all your experience and rate of pay. Thus the company gets a mechanic with ability to hit the floor at any station and the families dont have to wait 5 yrs to get back where they were before they got laidoff or left old carrier.

This would have nothing todo with bidding of shift/daysoff, still start at bottom of the list like a new hire. Its just a money thing.
Just as the trades have, if your a lic. electrian in Calf and go to NY if you have many yrs in industry you stay a journyman don't start as a helper all over again. something I think all airlines should have but it would be a feather in AMFA's cap to be the first to promote this as a union for the aircraft mechanics
All that would do is make out of work AMFA members less desirable to employers.

Employers would look to hire other workers at a lower rate and pass on the AMFA guys.

Bad idea for unemployed AMFA members. There are always unintended consequences.
The system we have now is bad for the employees already. in the real world, you are interviewed and hired based on that interview and your compensation is based on experience. Starting somewhere in the middle of the pay scale based on experience but below top because of lack of company seniority might work better. I always thought it sucked that the guys from Eastern and Continental with 10 plus years that hired on at AA got shafted by getting the same starting pay as a guy with 24 months experience at a small FBO.

Life is not fair.
And you can't force a company to pay a new employee more than entry level wages.

They will just hire someone else.

There are guys who where in amfa elsewhere who are complete idiots. So if interviewed them I would one not hire them or two not even put them on the pay scale and three probably put them in a seat shop where they could maybe do there job.

Nobody said life was fair. The context was in making it a contract negotiation point. Not forcing anyone to do anything. Worried it will affect the top out pay I guess.............

I doubt, with your lack of writing skills, spelling, and grammar, you will ever be in a position to interview anyone.

Don't assume I am worried about anything.
I made my point clear.
The idea is stupid and would make unemployed mechanics STAY unemployed.

Clear enough for you?

I found my seat shop guy!!!!! I am sure our entry level wages are not far from AA top out. I see you are a 20 plus mechanic at AA , Goodluck to you. Hope I don't interview when time comes to that. And btw blogging and grammar/spelling don't go hand in hand as I am quickly responding on my iPhone. Sorry I am more concerned with content :) but thanks for the writing/English lesson.

I'd never vote an all AMFA seniority and I would push for a NO vote on that. Weather you had 20yrs at American gives you no right to have that at SWA or Alaska or anywhere.. Just be happy you are collecting a pay check!! And if you don't like starting back at the bottom then apply else where!!!

I agree with you on that. You earn your time unless there is a law that keeps you from going to the bottom of the list. Still those guys are 0 time until they get years under there belt at Swa or what ever company they are at.

Exactly.

If you applied at SWA and told them that you deserved to make more than the other 10,000 experienced guys applying for the same job, they would show you the door and you would not make any money.

I know at one point Loui Key was a big supporter of 1 union and 1seniority!! But after hearing the mechanics thoughts on that I think he is not pushing it so much

When I was hired at SWA, a mechanic was one of the three people who interviewed me.
Later on after I had been here a while, I was told that if any mechanic wanted to do interviewing then just speak up. We were not told we would have a spelling test first.

I don't know if it has changed but I bet not.

He may be involed in interviewing now.
