American Airlines and Labor Negotiations

Stock price? That's the new barometer?

You realize Labor costs, as any expense, brings down stock price, right? You want a spike in the stock price, let them cut Maintenance to the levels other airlines have cut it. You're not in favor of that, I'd imagine.

Ill bet you bitched about every AA CEO in your career. And dont give me Crandall and his B scale

Not gonna argue with you two, if you think this group of “officers” is doing a good job that’s fine with me.

If some of you have not seen the latest memo/email put out by the individual who is representing the IAM membership first and foremost,
let me just post one line that should be extremely telling/troubling about this farce.

""The regular negotiating teams are not present for these talks."

In other words, those presidents who were elected and chosen to represent us (TWU) in negotiations are not even allowed to be there to do their jobs. In my opinion, this should be totally unacceptable.

That's been happening since the Executive Committee started going in. This had been negotiated by the International, but the Negotiating Committee or any of the Local Presidents.

The argument isn't that they're doing a good job or not, the argument is that stock price isn't a barometer Labor should use to make a point.

maybe this shows how much the upper echelon thinks of it's local presidents.

when incumbents start losing every election..they have to feel some pressure from local presidents. in the past year or so, the local presidents of dfw/mia/ord all lost??

what does that tell you? the rank & file are angry. at first - i believe the anger was misdirected, but now with it appearing the iam runs the show and subsequent TA disappointments, these guys will get angry at everything twu.

perception becomes or is actually, reality.

aa's margins are woeful compared to ua and especially dl. basically abandoning premium strategies to chase the once a year bargain-hunter traveler has failed, especially due to the fact the american economy boomed, with billions of dollars begging to be made from businesses and the wealthy. they want to be pampered and they don't care what the cost of an inflated first class ticket is.

when delta is raking in more revenue than aa, off of less flights, that says it all.

this is what aa used to be.

when analysts are getting grilled by their largest clients about aal...this is a legit argument.

The last 4 or 5 CEOs likely faced similar criticism at some point .I just dont remember this world class airline you speak of.I used go do stats before the merger and i could tell you right before the merger AA was last in all metrics and that wasn't including Eagle who reported separately to DOT and their numbers were awful.Nope all i remember over tbe years was a struggling airline as were all the airlines except LUV

Don’t forget AA basically treating small/medium markets as an afterthought. Kirby has come out and stated that UA wants to take back a lot of that turf, and their network map shows a lot of adds to places like MSN & EUG. AA? Not so much...

Don't disagree.

This whole thing about how bad an airline that is making billions in profits is doing, us quite strange.

On the other hand, from 2001 to 2011, when they were doing terrible, just seemed to shrug that off to the airline "hiding the profits."

No worries, I hear association has successfully negotiated longevity pay of .01 cent for every year of employment up to 10 years.

Did you know shift diff pay was at .51 and .58 cents over 40 years ago.

Good thing we have 2 unions representing us, otherwise we would be at 5 sick days a year and .01 cent diff pay for swing shift.

Oh yeah that’s right.

really?

did you ever wonder why us air went bk twice, co in 90s, ua, nw and dl...while aa didn't file until 2011? that never seemed odd to you?

sure, aa work groups made concessions in 2003. but, my pension accrued for another 8+ years and that's why the 'new' aa will pay me a pension, because of the strength of aa from mid 80's to 2011.

you don't want to admit to the strength of aa from mid 1980s-2011.

your aa history timeline starts in 2011? no, you need to go back a bit further and you'll figure it out...why the merged airlines wanted the 'aa' name and why me and others will get paid a pension.

All of you need to stop your complaining!!!

We offered you the option to sign cards and get out of the POS Association

The position was it wasn't a good time to change unions.
Once again believing they were close to a contract

Now a year and half later, Not only no contract, but you have lawsuit shoved up your back side.

So go ***** in the mirror you damn fools
You have exactly what you chose to support

They made profits in the 80's while beating back the unions, but lost money for half of the 90's. Made a profit only two years in 2000's and have made billions since 2013 (even though everyone says we suck)
