American Airlines and Labor Negotiations

I doubt he is a terrorist, just an idiot. Jail time of 6 months or less.
No way. He will get close if not the max. Too many priors at both AA and Alaska. And how do you get two full time jobs at two different airlines at the same time. What was this guys intentions? He will get way more than your 3-6 month predictions. You are talking 150 lives here if that bird did take off.
You are nuts if you really think he will get probation...

you are correct if he had prior. What else did he do other than get fired at alaska?

If you read any of the news articles released the intention was $$$$$.
This guy is all about money. He had two full time jobs and on the clock with both. He had a lawsuit against Alaska airlines. It's all about the $$$.
No respect for human life and only cares about himself. I read somewhere that his licenses were suspended after his arrest. It goes on and on. We will hear more at AA from our union and company as this progresses through the courts.

The articles I have read says the mechanic already admitted to doing it on purpose. You get this after the Judge has ruled in favor of AA in the suits. Not good for asso. when the ruling comes down from the Judge on the asso.
This criminal deserves the full 20 years for the attempted murder of over 150 passengers and crew. This will help the Judge hand down a huge punishment on the asso. in the companies favor.

This may assist the Airline from getting a large contempt fine.

In the court complaint it quotes the mechanic in saying he was in financial distress because of the negotiations. If he means the Associations position of no voluntary OT had caused him financial distress that prompted this act, then that puts an exclamation point of the Contempt case.

That could also create personal legal issues with some of the Association or Local/Lodge Representatives.

If he is in financial distress it is most likely his own stupidity that put him in that position.

The judge is not going to accept that from someone with a 6 figure income.

Some people just can't manage money. You show me someone with a $100,000 dollars worth of income I will show you someone with $500,000 worth of debt. Then they whine and blame other people when their debt catches up with them.

You're missing the point. He can't say anything to help his cause.

The point is that his description of why could be tied to the job action and the call to avoid voluntary overtime.

It is something that could be seized by the Airline in their contempt case. It shows how mechanics interpreted the call to action by some Association representatives.

Maybe it won't have an affect or maybe it will, and if it does, it'll be very damaging.

That dumbass threw away his career. Criminal record. He ought to get life in prison. Mighty dam good pilots in aborting takeoff

I got the point just fine NYer.

I just thought his defense was laughable.

Don't you think that is for the best?

He ought to get life in prison.
Why?

He will never work on aircraft again.

What good would sticking him in prison do other than to cost the taxpayers.

Better to just mark him as unemployable, make sure the media and public know what he did, and let him watch his life fall apart around him as he suffers the consequences of the public court of opinion.

No job, no income, debt, and no place to go.

I find that a much more fitting punishment than life in prison.

Cheaper to.

U got good points there. In the end. He faces 20 yrs but he may not get too much in terms of it. He done threw his career away. Sounds like he was a grumpy dude to work with

Everyone has a different idea of what fair is.
If this does not get settled next week, its very clear neither side is interested in getting it done. Shame on the association and the company for not finding a way. If they dont the association needs to be fined out the ying yang and a brand deserves to be drug thru the mud. Neither orginizations leadership deserves to be accused of being "leaders".

He had a many of ASAP reports not go his way. American warned him. To do this on purpose in order to get overtime is pathetic. WHAT IF the warning lights did not eliminate until after take off? We all know that they shouldn't but, what if?
And BTW, this guy just successfully shot down any kind of defence for the union in the suit cases with AA. Just added evidence for the company to use in their favor.

IMO NYer, it could go either way, but all depends on how the mechanic tells his side with the authorities. He could take full blame on himself, or he could say the union encouraged him to do it, or he could say the union's enforcing the no work overtime aimed at hurting the company is why he did it. Or he could even say he was directed by someone within the asso., but we will not know until the entire investigation is done. I can assure you this, the asso. is working as fast and hard as possible to completely unattach itself from this individual and they (asso.) is scared to death for now on what this mechanic might be saying or relaying to the authorities while in custody. By admitting already and so quickly tells me he did not lawyer up right off the bat. Asso. is very nervous on what will come out of this. Asso. might be best if they just throw their hands in the air, and ask for mercy at the table, some adjustments and agree to send out the contract for a vote.
