American Airbuses to Hawaii ?

US operates up to 8 flights/day this summer from PHX to Hawaii compared to AA's 12 from LAX and one of AA's LAX-HNL flights is on a 763.

US operates more than 550 block hours of 757 time per day as of this summer, including to Europe, Latin America, and within the US, largely on AA-US hub routes but also to other Florida cities.

AA might intend to replace all of US' 757s but Hawaii flying is a small part of US' overall 757 operation and most of it except for Europe can be operated by 321s.

AA is also shrinking its own 757 fleet.
I didn't say that. I said the Hawaii 757 fleet. Like Delta AA and US have different 757 fleets. Any 757 doesn't (and in some cases can't) fly any 757 route.

Like Delta's Hawaiian 757 (75V) the the US birds are also older than dirt and i imagine are getting close to a 5th overhaul. That 5th overhaul is so expensive you can almost go and buy a less used 757 for the same price.

AFAIK AA is keeping the LUS TATL 757 fleet which is younger than the Hawaii birds

the only part of AA's 757 fleet that has to remain is the TATL operations plus PHX-Hawaii for both carriers because the 321 can't do it as long as you accept that the 321 can do Hawaii from LAX. that is nowhere near the size of AA's 757 fleet. There is also a portion of the 757 fleet that flies deep S. America that a 321 can't do but the majority of AA's Latin 757s can be replaced by other aircraft - at least from a technical standpoint.

you can speak for DL but I doubt if AA or DL or UA maintains their 757 fleet to different ETOPS standards for the Atlantic or Pacific including Hawaii.

how much of AA's 757 fleet is ETOPS is not something I know but again the only part of AA's network that has to remain on 757s is all ETOPs.

AA is still getting rid of more 757s even from its own fleet than what are necessary to operate the 757 ETOPS portion of the combined AA/US network.

Its not as simple as just ETOPS.
Delta doesn't want to fly flat beds to HNL for example. That is why we have different fleets.

Same deal with AA. They don't want to fly the TATL 757s to Hawaii.

ok then at best you still have a subfleet of non-lie flat 757s and lie flat 757s.

Either way, the 757 has to remain if AA wants a narrowbody to Europe or PHX to Hawaii.

and AA and US apparently both have lie flat and non lie flat 757s and will have to in the future; the only difference is that they can consolidate from AA and US versions to an AA version of each.

but there will be a lie flat and non-lie flat version of the 757.

and 8 PHX-Hawaii flights requires a pretty small subfleet if non lie flat ETOPS aircraft are required and aren't used elsewhere.

The fleet page shows 24 total LUS with 16 painted in NAA livery. 4 were delivered between 2000 and 2001. Looks like eight delivered in the mid 80s are going to the boneyard. Looks like 16 LUS 757s will be around for a while.
