Aircraft maint issues

It’s not a pissing contest.

Each group provides a necessary service.

And the market determines the rates of pay.

Do you really think if they paid you the ramp less they would pay us more?

After 30+ years of being "represented" by the TWU, the market may set the rate, then why has the AMT at LAA been at the bottom of that market? Since this is not a "pissing contest", why are the FM payed exactly the same base rate as the Aircraft Mechanic?

Never was a TWU member and don’t plan on leaving my IAM station, so I don’t know your history and can’t answer what you asked about in regard to AA and the TWU.

Under my CBA I enjoy the flexibility of being an aircraft mechanic but I like the choice of being able to bid GSE or Plant Maintenance and only losing my license pay and not taking a massive pay cut.

The Plant Maintenance Mechanics have to know commercial plumbing, electrical, HVAC, Welding, assembleing of tail docks and even construction.

Look at the outside world and see how much those trades pay in areas where we have hangars and other facilities and they could probably make more in certain areas.

Also you didn’t answer that if they paid Fleet less would they pay us more?

And at WN FM DONT make the same as a mechanic.

You’re at the bottom? The average pay for 2016 according to BLS was $60,000. Aren’t you now making over $100,000 per year TOS?

Is this only selective comparing?

The answer is No, the company LAA has to my knowledge never change a compensation once it is part of the contract, except this last pay increase to gain the ability to work on each others aircraft or through a grievence.

You are 100% correct. They are the same group and they are paid massively less than their AA counterparts.

In base wages this little bag smasher (Me) makes more than them.

And they voted yes for whatever insane reason?
It's their first contract .

If TWU and IAM are never allowed any excuses on these boards then fair is fair.

Absolutely terrible representation by AMFA at SWA. (And you know I’m right driver)
I never had a problem with your guys union, if you hate it, change it. Or keep what you have. I just got tired of arguing with my fellow union members, about our process.

TWU has been at AA for around 75 years and
IAM has been at US for around 75 years also.

Through all the griping they really don’t hate it then as much as they claim or they would have changed it at some point in all that time.

And there are no excuses.

Weez, there are many of us who tried changing it. But it is a democratic process and it was close. Let's not forget the retired, union-member-turned-management and dead people who were deemed eligible to vote. To say we don't hate the TWU enough is not entirely accurate. There will always be those who abhor the TWU, those who don't hate them enough to change and those who fear change, period.

Could we not use your same analogy for the AMFA mechanics at SWA? All these years without a contract and no election to change representation?

Because fm supported the twu during our big AMFA drive and the twu is rewarding them. Remember the twu only thinks of the AMT when there is a AMFA drive.

See Metal this is why I put up the picture of the Merry Go Round. You guys can talk about so much really interesting stuff here regarding your skills trade but you waste your time with this stuff. Yes I’m sorry but waste your time.

I don’t buy the schtick of Dead and Illegal voters BTW. C’mon with the Zombie Apocalypse already.

The “people” “voted” (you guys know how that works, delegates) in at TWU top level so far have been completely different than any group I’ve ever seen. “PEOPLE” remember they overthrew the group you guys hated and that you feel screwed you. Again they had a Revolutionary War and Won. They tossed out the names you guys hated. What more do you expect from them?

The AMFA question, absolutely. I DON’T hate them. I have ZERO reason to and actually one day hope they can prove themselves. But they or no one else out there is anyone’s savior.

What in the World are you talking about!!!! Have you been paying ANY attention to ALL the Protests all over the Country? How much Money, effort and time do you think they’re giving you? And you insult everyone else (Myself here in MIA) who has come out to support you. Those protests have mostly been about you in case you haven’t noticed.

Facilities Maintenance and ALL Title 2 should support the TWU. Look at what AMFA just got FM at SWA. Less pay than I make, WTF?

Besides what makes you think you’re at the top of the pecking order anyway? Facilities guys can do a hell of a lot more than you can. They can do Plumbing, Electrical, Heating and AC and Welding. All you can do is work on Airplanes. On the outside market who do you think is going to get a job and who won’t? Easy answer. So get over yourself.
