For those of you who are furloughed and not within the numbers to be recalled, check this out. If every flight attendant rejects to comeback or just one decides not to comeback, AA will not recall addtional flight attendants.

Hello. Today is Friday, October 10, 2003. This is George Price, APFA National Communications Coordinator, with the APFA Hotline.

The APFA and American signed off on a Letter of Agreement this week that will result in the recall of 390 furloughed Flight Attendants. The projected increase in flying between now and the Spring of 2004 has created a demand for additional Flight Attendants. Recall information packets were mailed on October 9 to all Flight Attendants affected by this recall. Forms must be returned to the Company by October 21st. Failure to respond will result in the forfeiture of recall rights. The Company has built in a 10% buffer into the 390 recalls. What this means is that if all 390 Flight Attendants on this recall list do not accept reemployment, they do not plan to offer recall to additional Flight Attendants. Recalled Flight Attendants will be assigned primarily to LGA and possibly to one of the St. Louis bases. The recall packet information along with the recall list has been posted on the opening page of the APFA Web site.

Just curious, what would be the approximate occ. seniority date of the most senior F/a(of the "390") ???

NH/BB's
The most senior person furloughed in the last round (01JUL03) had an occupational seniority date in early April, 2000. That person evidently has a company seniority date that far exceeds that. Their 6-digit employee number begins with 114. My occupational and company seniority is 07SEP2000. My employee number begins with 593!

I can't believe the management of American Airlines. They have the nerve to recall 390 flight attendants, but if someone elects to pass recall they a) can never come back and B) will not pass recalls down to more junior flight attendants????? Talk about adding insult to injury. What the hell is that S*(%)4?? Gosh, I thought I had it bad being furloughed from USAIRWAYS.

You havent seen anything yet 330JETSTEW. Just wait until these 390 come back to AA to work the holidays to turn around and be furloughed again by AA Management. This seems to be the norm at this #1 Airline.

This the norm? How so? When did we see this happen before? Never!

It really amazes me how people can turn good news into such a sour thread. I hate to say this but if the return of 390 of our furloughed friends is such a bad thing then maybe you need to look elsewhere for employment. The rest of us that are concerned about getting ALL our fellow f/a's back to work don't need you negative nancy's around, whinning all the time. Move on!

The nerve of only recalling 390. Unbelievable! Why should the company hold open a spot four someone who doesn't want to return to work? Contractual overage leaves are the same way. Early cancellation and refusal to return on said date employee forfeits employment. Why would someone be shocked by AA's refusal to pass down to more junior crew members? They have already anticipated a percentage who will not becoming back and really dont want 390. They want less than that and expect a small number to not want to return.

Wow.

Judging by this thread, you guys definatly have a different corporate culture, and relate to your co-workers much differently than what some of us are used to. Larger company I guess.

Mikey last time there were over 2000 flight attendants on furlough. Then AA recalled over 400 of them before cancelling the overage leaves. Guess what happend July 2nd of this year? AA FURLOUGHED them again! How can you say this hasn't happend? It has! This Company has done things uncomprehensible to people. Yes, I know, I kow..You have the mortgage to pay but I ask when are you going to stand up for what is right? Hmmmm....Let me guess....When AA decides to furlough you, or your best friend! TAKE BACK YOU AIRLINE AND YOUR UNION AND FIGHT FOR WHAT IS RIGHT!!!!!....The APFA keeps violating ( Whats left of) our contract and you keep supporting them. I hope to hell that this is a turn around for the company and that another furlough won't happen, but the company's past record shows differently. Also, if this recall is so necesary then why won't AA allow others furloughed to come back if any of the 390 don't return to work? Answer That?

Because the company only needs 351 f/a's to come back. They worked in a 10% rejection of employment, in to there numbers. Thats why they wont continue down the list. Unless of course there was a very large number of rejections of re-employment.
