AA and US merger?

http://www.whitleylawgroup.com/blog/2011/12/texas-based-amr-may-seek-merger.shtml

Also, read the fine print. This law firm has nothing to do with AA's bankruptcy. The article, with all the errors in it, was written for their on-line blog. The source of their information was Bloomberg. They also had an article about a lawsuit between some refinery and a contractor. When you read the article you realized they didn't have anything to do with that lawsuit, either.

(I've sent an email to a friend of mine who is a partner in a major law firm in downtown Houston asking for information about this group. Will let you know if I hear anything.)

Yes, it is dated Nov. 30/2011, I believe circumstances have change since then. Going in with 4.1 billion and as noted now 4.88 billion cash. Oneworld membership as someone mentioined, etc... although it was made clear that One World has no money, but the participants could.
Buck, AA's cash balance has dropped since November 29, not increased. You aren't relying on that law firm blog for financial info, are you?

Actually I was relying on a post on this blog. Cannot remember exactly where. I read somewhere that in at $4.1 and now $4.88.

Ok, I can't find the reference now.

My bad. In any case, AA had approximately $4.1 billion of unrestricted cash on 11/25/11, and by now, that number has probably fallen by a couple hundred million or more. AA doesn't have $4.88 billion.

Since AA filed earlier this month, the first monthly report of financial results isn't due to be filed till next month at the earliest - assuming that AA doesn't combine December and January into one report, which can be done. When the first report is filed we'll all know how much cash AA has as of the end of the month(s) being reported.

FWAAA is most likely correct that AA has reduced it's cash balance so far. The 4th quarter (along with the 1st) is normally a period of cash drain and I doubt that not paying pre-petition bills has been enough to change that. Plus there's progress payments for future aircraft deliveries, although I have no idea when they're due to be paid.

JK,
Let me translate what DP is really saying there.

Don't expect us to make a successful bid for AA if we do at all. They now have 4.8B$ according to BK filings, and we need to figure out how to keep our employees at the bottom of the barrel in terms of total compensation. Never mind that every other carrier out there is re-tooling their fleet with the next gen of the next gen..AND growing, or soon to grow. We may be able to add a frequency to Charlottesville if we see the opportunity. We are fine with a network that is supported by regional feed on nearly 1-1 basis. We could go on like this forever if you just remember that we have to be the lowest paid because our network doesn't produce like others. Merry Christmas, DP.

Mod note- PLEASE do not quote an article that long to add a few lines. THANKS!

Don't forget that US Airways Management gets paid industry norm because they wouldn't be able to attract people if they paid them less.

Oh and Express is now 2600 departures/day vs 2400 Mainline.

I guess the US employees here are going to push until Horton caves.

Who represents the mechanics at US and what is their headcount?

A better question is what is their over all seniority versus ours?

I believe the IAM represents the USAir AMTs.
