A&e's New Series Airline

They most certainly do not. I am grateful that not everyone believes that perception is reality. That is not to take anything away from my co-workers who do choose to approach the job from the lighter side. When done well, with the appropriate audience at the proper time...they are a credit to our ranks and make all of us look good. However, the feeling amongst many of us is that the hijinks might need to be shelved until this "unpleasantness" has passed.

Was that "Airline" on last night? I thought that is was "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy", so I flipped channels.

WNrforlife,
Ouch!!! A gay slam? Sure it was! If you are a "WN" for life you need to adapt more. "Airline" producers pick which film they have captured as to what is most entertaining. I have been a WN F/A for over 13 years. I happen to have had a great social life here. OOPPS! I only like women! I also watched the episode, yet I watch myself when it comes to "homo" references. Yes, your comments were somewhat veiled(sp), but.., please be careful.

As long as homosexuals continue to shove the fact that they are gay in front of our faces on national tv, then they will continue to open themselves up to ridicule. You didn't see any heterosexuals there proclaiming that they were straight.

Attn all homosexuals: We don't care if you like to sleep with people of the same sex. So quit trying to make your homosexuality an issue whereever you go.

Actually, Yolanda made a comment about looking for men, and the guy that had the hots for Yolanda talked about pretending not to have a fiance for the evening. Were they "making their heterosexuality an issue"? When I talk about my husband or when my friend talks about her kids, are we shoving our heterosexuality in people's faces?

Please. Mike Carr simply brought his boyfriend to a company function. Sam Anderson made a flippant remark about being "as queer as he wants to be". Who cares? All other references to gay men were made by Yolanda.

I just find it incredibly hypocritical that this is an issue. One gay man actually mentioned he was gay, and another brought his boyfriend to a company function. But nobody's complaining about the guy who decided to pretend he wasn't engaged to try to hook up with Yoldanda. The only promiscuity highlighted on the show was heterosexual, but you're making an issue about a gay guy who brings his partner to a party.

Unbelievable.

Well, another episode and yet another person who shouldn't be allowed in public unsupervised...
I'm talking, of course, about the woman who couldn't recognize her own luggage (didn't even know what COLOR it was)!
What really amazes me is that they sign the broadcast release to allow themselves and their stupidity to be held up for ridicule by total strangers like me.

Hey, people will be people! Remember that old TV show with Alan Funt, "Candid Camera"? Admittedly those folks were set up in strange and surprising situations, but isn't flying today a strange and unusual experience for many people?

I'm impressed at how well the SWA employees handle every incident.

The lap child that was rather large brings up another safety issue. I wish the FAA would finally get around to changing the requirement to weight instead of age. I'd prefer the infants travel in a car seat for their own protection but understand the added expense can break the parents budget for a family trip.

Yep...and followed by that "I'll never fly you again" comment. I'm glad the guy in baggage asked her if she'd be flying them again now...

Actually, 2 men have mentioned that they are gay, and made a point of it.
No one on the series has mentioned that the are straight.

I think that you should perhaps find a political board to air your deep concerns about this seemingly abhorrent issue. I don't think that this is the place. It's also about 50 years beyond the era of your thinking. Time to move on...

Society assumes that people are straight. If a person doesn't say otherwise, the general assumption is that he/she is straight.

When a straight person speaks about his or her wife or husband (respectively!), is that not flaunting his or her heterosexuality (given that gays are not afforded the same right)? When you speak about your children, isn't that flaunting your heterosexuality? (yes, I know that many gay/lesbian couples have children).

But I know it just kills you to see Southwest treating its gay employees with the same dignity and respect as its straight employees...

No, what really kills me is that out of all of the episodes so far, they have yet to have follow around and highlight the duties of an Ops or Provo Agent in either city. They have had Customer Service, Baggage Service, Ramp, Flight Attentants, Pilots, but no Ops. Ops is one of the most important jobs out of all of them, and they don't show anything. This is a bit troublesome- I think that this lack of emphasis on our job just underscores the fact that the company is eventually going to do away with Ops as we know it.

By the way, "I'm married" or "I have 2 children" says nothing about someone's sexual preference. When someone states that they are gay on national t.v., they are just trying to promote their sexual preference. We don't care, so if we don't ask, please don't tell us.

Honey, get over it, get over yourself, and get used to it.

Last night's shows (nice to have two first-run episodes again) had the best misunderstood line so far (in episode #10): "Can you feel my knots?" :D
