A&e's New Series Airline

Also what would stop someone from buying a refundable ticket and meeting someone at the gate then not taking the flight and getting the money back?

Aren't full fare tickets fully refundable?

I have had a similar experience to Dea and I commend Yolonda on what she did and how she did it. Yol had enough questions in her mind about the suitability of this passenger that she asked for the Captain to be the final judge, seeing that it is his airplane. Everyone saw his reaction and the result. Of course, with cameras filming and the FAA folks having TV's, I expected the arrived at result.

There is no room for intoxication on airplanes. With a cabin altitude of 6,000-8,000 feet, alochol is twice as potent at altitude. I can't tell you how many times that I have had people tell me how much more they drink on the ground, to which I say I'm sorry, but I can only serve a reasonable amount and I am not allowed to get you impaired to the slightest degree.

Luv the snide comment about "SS income more than likely, he was flying SW"..

You're so Easy !!! I threw that In just to see who'd catch it......

Dea, as for the Comment... Nothing Bad...Just that I don't think Id EVER Pay Full Fare for a Ticket... Too spoiled Flying for Free !!!!!

And, I have had a Drunk Passenger on Board before... Leaving LAS one day a Family of 4 Mom, Dad & 2 Kids (Teenagers). I Flew "B"Position and was advised about MOM being Drunk... I kept an Eye on her during the Boarding Process.. Not much to say... She sat down...after about 10-20 Minutes she FELL ASLEEP ...Slept the WHOLE way home....

As for the 37 year old having a 73 year old Puking on him....People Puke ALL THE TIME on an Airplane....AirSickness, FoodPoising Etc... SO, Give me a break about the poor old Sick Man !!! Also, Remember The Paramedics Cleared him to FLY !!!

why does it seem Las Vegas gets all the more colorful people? i wonder what the people who make fools of themselves on camera think when they see the show months later when it finally airs?

I saw the last show too, and what really bothered me, was the 3 boys looking for Eminem. That had to have been totally staged. They were not flying anyhwere, just looking for their HERO???. There is no way they would have been allowed inside security for something like that. They were walking all over the place. Definately a Security Breach. SW is certaily scraping the barrel for film footage. I know one thing I have learned. I will never fly Southwest if this show is any indication of how they treat the public. I don't care how successful they are. Only one word comes to mind in every area I have seen about this show. CHEAP.
When the segment first introduced those Eminem fans it said they were traveling to Boise.

If a pax "appears to be intoxicated" then, by FAR's, they can't be boarded. I know that it happens all to often! As for this guy...It wasn't up to Yolanda. The Capt. said NO after speaking with him and that was it! The paramedics have no say. In my experience, if a F/A tells the Capt. that a boarded pax "appears to be intoxicated", the Capt. will have that pax removed so that he/she won't be held liable. This is especially true if it is mentioned in the C/P where there is a witness (the F/O) and it is picked up by the voice recorder.

As an employee of another airline that rivals Southwest, I wanted to weigh in on the show "Airline", because I find myself strangely addicted to it. I think Southwest took a gamble by agreeing to let this show air, depending on how much editorial control over the content Southwest has. I'm glad that it has been a "warts and all" show and not just a "rah rah Southwest is so great" show. There have been episodes that come off that way - very pro-Southwest, and there have been other episodes where I thought Southwest employees simply handled a very tough situation with a great deal of poise and grace. And then, there have been still other episodes where I have thought Southwest really botched that one.

The bottom line to me is that there are situations that arise when operating an airline that do not arise in any other business in the world. Period. And if this show accomplishes nothing else, hopefully it will make the traveling public more aware of that, and maybe they will think twice before they blow up at the airport when their flight is delayed or canceled or they feel that they've somehow been slighted by the airline. Yes, airlines do make mistakes. They are run by human beings, and as such, they are subject to all of the shortcomings that we, as human beings, inherently possess. And there are airline employees that are scumbuckets and thieves. But the overwhelming majority of airline employees are genuinely good people who are just trying to make a living and honestly trying to give the passenger the best experience possible, within the confines of airine rules and regulations, FAA/DOT rules and regulations, TSA and security rules and regulations, and everything else that they have to deal with on a daily basis.

I enjoy the show. I hope they renew it.

SWA has announced that there will be a 2nd season of Airline. For the next season they will film at BWI in addition to LAX & MDW.

They sure were having a gay old time in Chicago during Christmas on last night's episode.
The final first-run episode of the season, BTW. From now on it's all repeats until Season 2 starts later in the year.
What truly amazed me in last night's episode was that there are two men out there desperate enough to marry and (presumably) sleep with that cow that was at MDW with her silent husband and kids that she was shlepping off to HOU to visit their father. What a prize... <_<

Even though an "appears to be intoxicated" passeneger may be thought to be docile and will probably go to sleep and not be a problem, an issue arises if an emergency situation develops and that person not only can't react well, but becomes a hinderance (and danger) to others in case of an evacuation or whatever situation develops.

So much for the employee "human interest" stories in the new season.
What was with the body builder "posing" out on the ramp? I've never seen anything so ridiculous.

Also, maybe the passengers in MDW wouldn't remain so upset if Colleen didn't talk to them as if they were 5 years old. How did she ever get to be a supervisor? Her people skills really suck.

They were really scraping the bottom of the barrel again last night trying to bring out the "human interest" side of the stories. Problem is, no one is interested in seeing an upset mom who sends her children away for a year. Especially when you have Colleen trying to console her and talking to her like she is 5 years old.
What is with Colleen anyway? She looks like she has a permanent scowl stamped on her face.
