This is America West management, and a different union negotiating team to go along with a different airline industry, no longer are we dealing with, we have to save OH or our pension. AA is no longer losing money, but making $1 billion plus a quarter!!!!!
I'm very optimistic about our future. After all how bad would it look for the association (TWO UNIONS) if it can't beat an IBT contract with 7 weeks VC, pay, holidays, 12 sick days, etc etc .......at an airline that is smaller and doesn't make as much money as AA does.
Your two statements above are a credit to you, but that is what AA and the TWU have counted on here at AA for years. It's great that the yrs of subpar contracts has not soured you.
I just hope that for the sake of all the mechanics at AA your pipe dream of the association doing something so they won't loose face comes true. But I along with many others won't be holding my breath. You must live in a low cost area and have your financial future all worked out.
As far as line mechanics supporting guys who came from O/H as long as you come to a station with a willingness to work, to show some interest in learning the line job you will receive all the help you require. O/H at many carriers is a thing of the past, AA has kept it because of the cost of labor here at AA. Holidays, vacation, Pension, Holiday pay rates, etc..
gone. We now have or will receive many new A/C this is going to reduce the Heavy checks required. The result of that you can think about yourself. "B" checks are now turning into Phase checks, maintenance at AA is and will not be as it was in the past. The numbers of required maintenance workers is far less at Delta and United. You do the math.
The jr. guys on the line are the ones who will pay the price for your good contract.
But then again you will have gotten your wish, dream, and given AA and the TWU/IAM more time to destroy our class and craft.
