In the tentative agreement it states joint contact negotiations start within 30 days. I would rather have our IAM Contract than the pos Bankruptcy AA Contract any day.
you got that right. last thing you want is the twu doing you any favors.

This contract will pass overwhelmingly because the majority of the mechanics live in low cost of living states. CLT PIT PHX. The Mechanics in High Cost of Living States are very few compared to those 3 Behemoth's.

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) today announced that approximately 11,000 maintenance training specialist, fleet service and mechanic and related employees approved new contracts by 96, 86 and 67 percent respectively at the "new" American Airlines.

The three year accords provide for significant wage hikes, industry-best job security, retains affordable health insurance and preserves defined-benefit pension plans at the carrier.

"I'd like to thank all IAM members and their negotiating committees at US Airways for their patience, support and determination during this tenuous process," said General Vice President Sito Pantoja. "We are now well situated to begin joint contract talks with our Transport Worker Union (TWU) sisters and brothers to achieve the best contracts in the airline industry at the world’s largest airline."

The TWU-IAM representation Alliance, formed last year after the merger of US Airways and American Airlines, will begin talks with American Airlines for agreements that will bring over 30,000 TWU-IAM Alliance members under joint contracts.

The IAM is the world’s largest airline union and represents approximately 11,000 pre-merger US Airways workers.

Sad to see this pass.  However the majority wanted it and the majority gets it.  Does anyone have the % of participating members in the voting process?  I see the 96%, 86% and 67%.  I would call the 2 higher overwhelming, yes. But, the mechs are not overwhelming @ 67%.  I think I would put overwhelming @75% and above.  Very curious to the numbers of total voters, anyone have those numbers/  Pls post them.

After reading your post above, I see the IAM is promising "industry leading" and best contract at largest airline.  Here's the quote:

Now that is funny. Believe me it will be business as usual. Just look at UAL/CAL.
We are both tied into a contract until 2017, so what is the rush for the company to come up with a JCBA that will cost them more money.

You wont see the numbers in detail. I was not surprised to see it pass. The IAM had full control on the Voting process. At least with the TWU they used Ballot point.
Internet voting or phone call. We had two weeks to vote and could change our vote and get a confirmation number and receipt. We were able to vote anywhere there was a computer or telephone unlike the IAM just did at USAir. They risk having many guys not being able to vote. You have to ask yourself is the IAM looking out for the best interest of the membership especially during a very critical point in negotiations? I wonder what process the alliance will use in upcoming voting? Either way the vote was done and the results posted. Time to move on to the next step in negotiations.

I drove into that big expensive union hall parking lot over on Moon Clinton, and was the only car in the parking lot.

I walked in and was the only person in there, other than some angry union people I didn't even know.

I marked my paper ballot and was actually happy that this time in had built in perforations between the stub and ballot, unlike other time where you had to tear the two apart.

I put my paper ballot in a 55 gallon drum like it was 1940, went out in the parking lot and threw up.

Oh well, at least 67% of my scared coworkers are happy.

I also wonder about the % who voted. Is it true that a non-vote counted as a yes? That 67% looks a lot smaller if that's the case, depending on how many actually voted.
