Why Tim Nelson is Dangerous to IAM-represented employees at United Airlines

Also, if 96% have 2006 seniority protection then that necessarily means there are less than 600 total ramp agents with less than 8 years. Really?

Will some smaller stations be lost? Yes. Will some people have to move to stay with UA? Yes. But that has always been the case in the airline industry. Location protection has NEVER been the case.

Congratulations. In one paragraph, you have summed up all that's wrong with labor today. Your NC had a real shot at hitting the reset button for labor relations in this industry, and you f'ed it up. Badly.

Kev, there is some fuzzy math. First off, out of 15,000 rampers, around 4,000 have less than 8 years and wont meet the seniority cutoff bar.
800 are in ord. Ord only has less than ten % part time. Management can rightsize ord and say it needs a new full time equivalent headcount , due to financial reasons or other reasons, and downgrade 400 full timers. Nothing will stop that.
The main thing preventing this currently isnt scope but work rules. Those work rules will be abolished.

Me and a bunch of my co-workers got thru. The 10 of us found out what we were getting. Some will vote Yes. Some will vote NO. The vibe I'm getting from my small sample of what I see is a split decision. The money doesn't faze me, I just want this nightmare of a merger to be over. I still haven't made up my mind yet. But I will take the time to definitely vote. Money or no money.

The decision will be close. I'll bet that thing will pass by about 5% over.

This thread will--point by point--dismantle Nelson's positions as they relate to IAM-represented employees present condition in negotiations with United Airlines:

(1) Nelson claims that IAM District 141 is conceding "scope" protections for IAM-represented employees at United Airlines.

The truth is, IAM-represented employees at United Airlines currently possess very little scope protection. Only pre-merger United ramp employees possess scope of any kind. In fact, there are presently a little over 3,000 pre-merger UA ramp employees out of a total of 6,100 that have scope protection.

While there are 29 named stations, two have closed MKE and FLL, in which only IAM-represented ramp service employees can perform MAINLINE United flights, these stations have become over the last decade largely or partially United Express stations in which the work can be contracted out.

All other pre-merger Continental--Fleet and ASA, and pre-merger United customer service work have absolutely no scope protections.

Nelson--a US Airways ramp service employee, advocates that thousands of IAM-represented employees at United without absolutely no protection vote against protecting their jobs because he would like to see the IAM fail at United so he can personally benefit politically.

I challenge Nelson to debate me regarding any and all issues relating to job security at United Airlines. I doubt he will because he never stands up to a challenge of wits. He'd rather spend his time in the sphere of the nitwit.

I just got off the phone about my retro and the bonus money :D I have will have more than enough to clear up all my outstanding bills to pay for my girls and their education needs. I encourage all United IAM to call the number and get the figure and tell your wife or husband the number that is if you have the guts! Everyone on this page please think and don't be confused misled and lied to by a non united worker. The raise alone and job protection in this TA will take care of my needs and family for many years to come. :D Praise God for the bounty of Retro coming to my family
