When asked if the IAM would consider a strike, Freiberger said that "nothing" has been ruled out. But Tom Miklavic, negotiator for the baggage handlers, admitted a strike "could happen" if the company and the union can not agree on cuts. IAM officials, he added, are discussing that possibility and examining their legal rights.

NC Unemployment office:

Q: What are some reasons you could be denied unemployment compensation?
A: You could be denied unemployment compensation if you:
Voluntarily quit your job, without a compelling reason
Were fired because of willful misconduct
Refuse suitable work
Are unable or unavailable to work
Are incarcerated following a conviction
Are participating in a strike

this is absurd on an opener proposal to the unions....
are you voting on this proposal 'er what??
so whats your point?

Seems to me a strike is the only power the union has when the company elects to not honor agreements that "IT" willingly, signed with the employees..in good faith....

If you wanted something from the company...or did not live up to the stipulations in the contract the company would say...."Sorry, we can't do that for you, its not in your contract.....".... But, the company wants to throw out the contracts to rewrite them to fits their own desires now.....

I think we will see a strike this holiday season.....Don't you?

all concerned should step back and take a deep breath here...if there is any chance of salvaging what we have.....this is not the answer...beat me if you like...but i have a very good insight that ATSB will pull the plug at any inkling of a strike to get the secured creditors some type of dollar return...
guess we'll have to wait and see what our respective unions negotiate and bring back...until then ,its time to keep this talk to a minimum....

I posted this on another thread but it seemed to fit her too.

I think that all airline employees should do some thing larg if we don't do something very quick our way of lives which have already change will change even more .....Corporations are taking advantage of this goverment in place and just stomping on our throats.......a sick out on thanksgiving and christmass would be a good start.

Remember AA F/A's strike on thanksgiving that forced the president to get involved...................and their working enviorment got better ever since
as of now a international F/A at american is making over 55,000 year.

just a little note we are the ginny pigs if we don't stand up the house will fall
there are other jobs I have been looking what scares us the most is that we have been doing this so long we are scared to change trust me you all are capable and smart enough to realize that they won't stop untill we are gone.

I don't have a dog in the CWA/IAM/AFA fight, so far be it from me to tell anyone in those groups what to do.

I do find the unemployment info interesting.....

Can't collect unemployment while on strike - well duh!

The more pertinent question is "Can you collect unemployment if your employer ceases operations whether you were on strike at the time or not?"

Jim

Strike - strike - strike - strike - strike - strike... get my vote???

Strike, shut this joke down, and then we can collect. If you have no job to return to, they cannot turn you down for unemployment. Check it out.

And, as an added benefit, we keep Bronner from making millions with the bunch of losers he intends to replace us with!

Bring it on, I'm ready! (Of course I mean all of the company diehards posting on this board, not Bronner)

Wow, unbelievable, must be nice to be able to walk away from a job and not have
to worry about making a living or worry about healthcare. By any chance do you live in the Pittsburgh area? Just curious, seems that's where most of this doom and gloom is coming from.

The vast majority of FSA and CWA in PHL are ready to shut the place down too.

I'm amazed, most of these people are willing to shut this company down and sit at home watching soaps and infomercials while collecting unemployment (while it lasts) than to protect what's left of a career you've been at for many years! Unless all of you are independently wealthy I'd be very careful what you ask for!

Thre is nothing left of our "careers".

Coachrowsey is correct....there is no CAREER left here...only poverty. Im moving on and so are many others. I REFUSE to work for poverty wages, while those in CCY rake in the millions at our expense. This company can shut down and take those carpetbaggers in CCY with it. They have no concern for labor and now labor has no concern for them.
