BRAVO, nyc.......I think many of us have the same feelings about leaving this ship. After a while, life is too short to deal with the miserable, nasty, hateful, sarcastic management puppets that try to run this outfit. Although I have no desire to resume a career in aviation, I have no doubt there are much more agreeable working conditions at other companies. Even for less money, it's worthleaving all this aggrivation, and living life again.

Having just shy of 25 years here, I'll say that if (when?) this place folds I'll hang up my RayBans and call it quits but not for the reasons some have stated.

After nearly 25 years, I'm just too old to start over at another airline. I suspect that no one would hire me with 2 years (or less) to go since the cost to train me - yes, I'd have to go through initial training just like any other new hire - would outweigh the usefulness a prospective employer could get in so short a time.

And that's fine - whether this place lasts another 27 months or only 27 days will make little long term difference to me.

Will I miss the flying? Not only yes, but h@#% yes.

Will I miss many of my co-workers, from both ends of the plane and on the ground? Again, yes.

Will I miss what the seemingly endless "crisis" demands for more concessions because the latest "sure fire" plan isn't quite living up to the advance PR? Not one bit.

The funny thing that everyone seems to consistently forget is that WN gets MUCH more productivity out of each employee. Forgetting pay per employee for one minute, WN pays LESS for the same amount of productivity at U. I guarantee you that if you went over to WN thinking you would get paid much higher while still having extensive work rules "protecting" you from exerting too much effort, you would wear out in a month. That is precisely why WN does not favor hiring employees coming from legacies. WN has mastered efficiency and that means each employee is much more productive than at other carriers. That allows them to pay more to the employees b/c the employees are willing to give more back in the form of effort.

Mystery solved...

Ch.12 I sure wish you would enlighten me as to what work rules we (Fleet and Customer Service) have that is causing all this pain for US. WN's Ramp and Customer Service contract have many more restrictions than do US's. So it must be the way management is running things................Mystery Solved!!

Work rules that limit that amount of work that can be done. WN's rampers, FAs, agents, pilots, mx, etc all have more duties built into their titles. That is where they are more efficient and productive. I don't care what their work rules are, but they actually allow them to do more work and that is why they get paid more. WN may pay more for employees but they pay less for production. The extra "restrictions" at WN are actually extra duties. CS has many more functions than at legacies such as U.

But yes...of course...management is the root of all evil. I'm glad to see yet another thread minimized to this. I would challenge you to think critically, though, that if you want more $$ like at WN, then you should expect to do much more work, like at WN. It isn't as simple as saying "I would go to WN b/c they pay more".
