I too would have to agree, that after 20 years in this business, the chance of me working for another airline again would be nil, napa ,zip, not again.... I have given my heart and my sweat and I give 100 percent everyday that I am there, but I must admit that its getting harder and harder for me to have the same passion...I am Sorry that management has taken the stance that I am not worthy of my pay, but since I do get a vote and I will exercise my vote, you can rest assured that based on your current proposal to my group, it will be a big fat

WN is an LCC who pays their employees more then anyother major airline. And they are the highest % of unionized employees and they have been profitible for like 15 years or more straight.

US use to compare our wages to them, but then realized they make more then us!

Just to keep the record straight 700, WN has made money yearly for the past 30 plus years. I get your point though.

The funny thing that everyone seems to consistently forget is that WN gets MUCH more productivity out of each employee. Forgetting pay per employee for one minute, WN pays LESS for the same amount of productivity at U. I guarantee you that if you went over to WN thinking you would get paid much higher while still having extensive work rules "protecting" you from exerting too much effort, you would wear out in a month. That is precisely why WN does not favor hiring employees coming from legacies. WN has mastered efficiency and that means each employee is much more productive than at other carriers. That allows them to pay more to the employees b/c the employees are willing to give more back in the form of effort.

Mystery solved...

I am like alot of others, once around is plenty also. Better to work in another chosen field and make enough money to pay for tickets without the Hassle of non-revving.

As a WN employee for 9 years, I can tell you that Southwest hires many employees from legacy carriers, if they come across as well balanced people who dont mind working hard then they have the same shot as anyone else of getting into SWA.
As far as pilots, f/as, and ground ops goes. We have people from every airline out there working here. I flown with a couple former US f/os and f/as working here, same goes for HP, AA, UA, DL just to name a few.

I'm not saying that WN does not hire from other carriers, simply that they are selective when doing so. To hire on negative attitudes about management or work expectations would be disastrous and that is why they are selective in who they hire. Tieing it to this thread, if U were to collapse, WN would not hire all of those employees who wished to go to WN...even if it had the positions to fill. Reason being that it is often hard to break the views and/or habits that they have...especially after decades somewhere else. I agree that there are many people from all airlines at WN but they are open-minded individuals and can fit to the WN model. My point is that those sniveling about how much WN pays in comparison (but at the same time don't accept that WN's employees work much harder) aren't a fit at WN and would not make it in. That's what I mean by WN doesn't "favor" hiring these employees. Just a generalization...sorry if it sounded like I meant that they never hire from other carriers.

NO WAY!!!!! This industry sucks!!!!! 20 years of aviation is enough for me!!!! Actually jumping this ship BEFORE it sinks!!! I"M OUTA HERE!!!

I would not even look for work at another U.S. carrier if USAirways goes belly up. Except....for Virgin America.

I enjoy flying airplanes. I enjoy the variety. I enjoy the people I work with (for the most part.) I enjoy getting to move about rather than staying pinned to a desk.

I suspect Virgin America will have working conditions and pay scales in line with the other young LCCs. While that is significantly less than USAirways now pays me, working for an outfit that values your efforts and treats you with at least a modicum of respect means a whole lot more than the pay differential.

Even if USAirways survives, and Virgin America offers me a job, I will resign my seniority number in a heartbeat to take it. Life's too short not to thoroughly enjoy your work, and I doubt that the "thoroughly" part will ever happen again at USAirways.
