Hey Folks

As some of you may know, I received a conditional offer of employment for p/t fleet service at PHL a little over two weeks ago. I know my 10 year background just cleared on Monday and was sent over to HQ. When should they be calling me for a training date?? I guess I'm just a little excited to start, and the wait is just killing me. Also, would I have to worry about being layed off, or are new hires usually the last to go since they're getting paid so little? One good thing that I would have going is that I don't need any benefits except travel because I'm still a student and covered under my parents.

Thanks!

They are in the process of laying off so I don't think you might get hired.

Last hired, first fired.

That's what I was thinking in the back of my head, but while these layoffs are going on they're still having open interviews for fleet service. I know they've had them every tuesday in July in PHL, and they still had one 2 days ago.

Thats because they can't keep anyone after they are hired. Maybe someone from Phl Fleet Service can chime in.

johnnyd you want to work for this group?

I want out...so I think I'll stay another 4 yrs and MAKE THEIR BUDGET MISERABLE>
If I had to do again...NOT!!!

Think 2X

You won't be hired for mainline now. You should be recieving a phone call offering you a job with Mid Atlantic, take it or leave it. The new hires that have already started training are being offered Mid Atlantic or termination.

Good luck, and stay in school. The days of this being a good career are over.

Geeze,

Correct me if I was wrong, but you were interested in a part time job, not a career, right...? If that is the case, it is not sucha bad gig, either way, if it is what you want, wish ya luck

Rico is right in that I'm not wishing to do that as a career. It something I always wanted to do as a part-time job. This job is also convenient because I go to college in Philadelphia. My career goal is to work for an airline in the Marketing or Ops. department. I think I'm going to give them a call today to see what's going on.

Please let us know what you find out.
Also to repeat what some one else said, if you are just looking for a part time job ok. Airline employment isnt what it use to be. I'm thankful for the years while it was good. Hindsight being 20/20 I sure wish I would've stayed in another line of work for which age has now caught up with me.
Anyway good luck to you.

So, is anyone learning anything from this thread?

Lights coming on.....
Coffee being smelled...
Cold water splashing on face

anyone?

I called this morning and left a message for her on voicemail, but I haven't received a call back yet. I called the number that they give you on the conditional offer of employment, but I'm thinking it might just be a number that she never picks up because she probably gets a lot of calls. Everytime I've called that number it's always rung 4 times, then goes to voicemail saying when she's in and out of the office for the week, and to leave a message and she'll get back to you. We'll have to wait and see.

Well, I finally heard back. I got a letter in the mail today offering me employment with MidAtlantic. I have to call the lady on Monday morning to schedule a training date. Even though the pay is a little less, I'm still going to take it because it would be the perfect p/t job for me. I'm wondering how this whole this is going to work. Do you only work on MidAtlantic flights, because I really didn't think that there were that many that come into PHL everyday.

Are you sure this is for MDA? The F concourse jet bridges are being retrofitted so they can be used for EMB170/ERJ/CRJ aircraft. The A/C parking areas at the gates are being repainted as well. The new lines have stop lines for the above mentioned A/C types. I don't remember if PHL is a PDT or ExALG gound managed facility? Does this mean that PDT/ALG are being replaced with MDA personnel?

I hate to say it, but I told you so. This Mid Atlantic crap is sickening.
