It was benign until real Nazis co-opted it.

Same can be said about the battle flag. It wasn't a controversy until the skinheads latched onto it. The Confederate flag was used by active duty units in WW-ii and Vietnam. I don't recall the "Dukes of Hazzard" being boycotted or labeled as HateTV. Certainly, Clinton (the first black president) didn't decry being associated with it at the time.

It's no different to me than the Soviet flags that adorn Red Army monuments in Germany, Austria, Russia and elsewhere in Eastern Europe.

The memorial is on state land at the Capitol. So it is a state building. The flag is controlled by the state assembly that controls every aspect of the flag. This happened in 2000 under the South Caroline Heritage Act.

So the flag is not only on a state building which is controlled by the state legislature. But they have seen fit to keep the flag as full staff even though the state flags have been at half mast and will remain so for 9 days (1 day for each person murdered by a white supremacist).

I guess other than the fact you left out it is just like the Soviet flag at various sites.

I must admit I never had you pegged as an apologist for white supremacists.
