Vacation Buy Back for December

Also think about this flaw on what ETOPS found out. Think about who has vacation during the last two weeks of December, Senior people, 40 + years. Do you think these people are going to give up their holidays to fly? Hell no! The people who will use the vacation buy back are those that have vacation in the first three weeks of the month, so it will have no impact on what coverage is like at Christmas. It will just mean more people sitting around in the weeks prior to Christmas while the senior people are out getting paid extra time while working on their vacation. So when Christmas week comes around it will be the same, all the reserves out there who sat around all month doing nohting scrambling to get the trips filled. Working for per diem only while the senior poeple are home enjoying the extra money that they made off our backs.

Wasn’t AFA complaining that vacation buy back was not used during the XMAS melt down

To be honest, reserves are so naive about this situation, just call out sick, thats exactly what i do, e-v-e-r-y year.. I refuse to work holidays the rest of my life. Get your doctors note and have a wonderful holiday, that is what i would recommend everyone do on Christmas and all other major holidays..
Gee, guess who that hurts? More reserves when the company runs out of flight attendants and starts assigning trips in inverse order.

According to what PK said to etops1, this is because blockholders use the ail and that causes a shortage. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong about this, but isn't there such a thing as a restricted bid sheet? Also, doesn't SAP restrict a certain percentage from dropping around the holidays? I can't remember the last time there was vacation buyback....does anyone have a month and year for that? Were the union officers afraid of releasing this information at the meeting? Just like everything else for reserves, we're trying but our hands are tied, we're trying to negotiate that, etc. Just like the twelve hour shifts for reserves which has never seen the light of day.

This was brought up at the DCA union meeting yesterday and the answer given to us was that it seems the company is trying to cover itself with the swine flu sick calls that are bound to come up. This flu keeps people sick for 2-3 weeks and we have already seen an increase in sick calls to date. They were giving out flu shots yesterday for the regular flu, but the company has said to this date they will not be vaccinating crews from H1N1. The union asked the company if an f/a brought a letter in documenting that he or she had H1N1 would they be excused from using a sick call since we get so few anymore. As expected, the company said "No."

No it wouldn't - if you are out sick, DEC 15 - JAN 07, its your own fault, dont complain and have a nice holiday. I must say, last year I did work the holiday, b/c I traded with someone that needed certain days off for their children.. Otherwise, take the advice...

This is an obscene decision.

Yours truly will be out working the holiday, making $10 more per hour due to understaffing because the sand sniffers have just basically ensured a quasi meltdown.

Reserves languishing all month will get good and bitter. Some might start to think: Sniffle. Sniffle. Hey this might be swine flu! See ya!

Who would blame them? Not me. I saw this action a few years ago. Two flight attendants made 11K that month and guess what? Never flew over the holiday. Their super seniority let them fly the first three weeks solid and then off they went flush for gifts.

They're going to be technically overstaffed due to the return of the leaves, and now buyback?

Geez, it just gets worse!

Sigh. I'll bring the christmas cookies.

This company is so pathetic. All I will say is the company sets themselves up for what could possibly happen. As for the union....yeah you keep going to those union meetings and tell them how mad you are. My breath is worth more. NOTHING will change around here. Count on Debbie to brighten your day. This airline sucks.

Hello TravelPro....I trust you are well.

In any event, what did you all expect? It's like Big Brother. Expect the unexpected. What this does is hysterical. Those gals that will hold this WILL NOT fly Christmas or New Years. They will use to to SAP the ever loving holy heck out of the 2nd to the 22nd and the 27-29th. Thus the middle senority can't hold boo rats rear and everyone sits and waits for the holiday when they pop back to basting the Turkey. So the engine turns....

With all those trips not being dropped and going into secondary lines, wait to you see how far back reserve is going to go for December. It won't be pretty. All the more people to join those of us career reserves and sit around all month getting paid to do nothing. All of this while the senior people are being paid overtime. No wonder we lost $80 million with decisions like this.

"boo rats rear"

That is the perfect description of what it will be like in December.

most rsv will be working over the holidays, knowing that, they sked their holiday for a different day, when sick calls or what ever forces the company to pota it makes things worse, keep your sked and just say NO.....
