US to Take Blankets Off Flights

It's about time people owned their own pillow and blanket.

Watching what people do to these things is gross.

It's not hygienic to share these things.
Totally agree! Selling a pillow/blanket package is a good idea...finally the flight attendants won't have to pick up filthy blankets with all of those bodily fluids on them!

If someone with bugs in the forest sat on that seat could the forest bugs get on the seat and live there? COULD IT?? I need to google this.

The answer to that is yes. How do I know this, you may ask? It's the same exact reason medical students are taught NOT to sit on the beds of patients. Those forest critters are wiley.

Be thankful for the leather seats, regardless of your like or dislike for the shade of blue. They're akin to rubber mattresses. And, by all means, eschew anything that is cloth.

Think of this appetizing thought the next time you are putting your head down for a night's sleep on a (cloth) bed at any hotel, regardless of the number of stars in its ranking.

So those forest bugs can't live on leather or rubber? It's a sterile field?

Sure, I'll bring my own pillow and blanket as soon as I'm allowed to do so without it counting towards my carry-on limit. I suppose I shouldn't hold my breath on that one.

Dunno.. ask the same question on the AA board, and see where you get an answer first.

As the person who posted a lot of what you quoted, do let me answer that. When I said I found the blankets in that condition in the F/C cabin, did I say that I left them there or gave them to the passengers? No. I simply called cabin services and had them REPLACED.

Yes, some of our blankets at AA are nasty. If we can't get them replaced we usually just stick them in an empty cart. The caterer then removes them at the next station.

But then, I also haven't seen any Platinum or Executive Platinum AAdvantage members posting on USAviation.com that they have quit flying AA in favor of the much better service and amenities at US Airways, have I?

That being said, I wholeheartedly support the idea of selling a clean blanket and pillow to passengers on the airplane regardless of the airline.

Certainly not sterile fields, but wouldn't it make sense that rubber or leather -- relatively less porous and with less hiding places -- could be debugged more effectively than their cloth counterparts?

The whole subject is nasty. Makes me want to wear a scuba suit when I fly. Or go dressed as the boy in the bubble.

Gross, I bet there are forest bugs in the cloth seats!!!! I'm going to wear LEATHER PANTS when I fly, I have never had a forest bug and I am sure not going to get one from a skanky seat on inbound CUN after spring break. EWwWWwwwWWwWW!!!

So then you'll get other bugs inside the leather pants in the form of a yeast infection.

You know I'm jk, you're all roses all the time, leather or feather!

Hmmmm, yeah good point, and leather doesn't really flatter my gnome legs.
The reason why my roses grow so beautifully is because I have replaced water with Starbucks. Coffee is mostly water anyway, right? It's good for me!!

I am glad that the pillows and blankets are being removed. So many nasties in them. People drool on the pillows and it goes through the case and into the cotton. I bet if you put them under some kind of bacteria light you would see all kinds of germies.

Actually US can't wash them because they disintegrate when they come into contact with water...
That is not true, they are removed and washed then returned to service, at least they were when US had their own utility.
